Nice. My current license plate is SUVBAIT, but I think a change is in order, if it's not taken yet in Wisconsin.
I started this talking about the car company. I really think we had a mostly polite debate. To me it shows that this really is a fun and friendly site. I know some other sites could never had this debate. That's too funny. Every time the wife and I are going somewhere I will have to say "let's motor" she will wonder why I'm giggling. I know, grow up, I hear that a lot
That's what my wife says to people when they ask if we are every going to have kids. "We are not having kids because I have Dave."
Saw this on one of the VW forums. http://www.carthrottle.com/10-images-that-show-just-how-fat-cars-have-become/
Phew!!! Just got caught up on this thread. Just a thought... Do you think the VW people got upset when they remade the bug? Or remade the remake of the bug? I kid I kid! Let's not start again.
Truth is, just like many of the classic owners weren't keen on the new MINI, many classic Beetle owners weren't keen on the New Beetle. But they still liked the Beatle's. The one that really gets me is Porsche--my gosh!!! The BMW 5 pictures are cool too--the original 5 is smaller than than the last 3 by a big measure.
I think that still exists today in some circles and will probably never disappear completely. The first time I attended Mini Meet East Meets West in my R50 (circa 2009) I was taken aback by the number of "what the hell are they doing here?" comments. Honestly, I didn't feel all that welcome and I know others in our group felt the same way. Perhaps time and numbers have healed this attitude to some degree...
I have felt this too, it is not a very nice experience. When I experience such attitudes I just laugh. Kill them with kindness I say, such people do not know how to react to kindness & good will. If you let them get to you that is exactly what they want, me I won't give them the satisfaction. All this being said most every classic Mini owner I have run into have been wonderful folks. I do think it is a very small minority who take exception to New MINIs & their owners. It's their problem not mine.
I welcome all mini /MINI owners to come to all events. None of us have the best MINI made unless we have a classic. I will say this, the way MINI/BMW is going they are loosing the roots, heart and soul of the classic mini design and function with every new generation.
Sort of back on topic. Heck that's a first for me. The way I see it are most folks who bought into the Gen 1 MINI are enthusiasts. Many who bought Gen 2 MINIs & it's variants are too, but the number was less than before. We will have F56 enthusiasts but I don't think they will reach the number we've seen previously. BMW/MINI is becoming a J.A.C. to many buyers. JAC = Just a car. :frown2: I'll welcome any F56 enthusiast & I'll even put up with the J.A.C. owners. Especially if they buy the donuts.
Our club has been welcomed by, "The British Car Club", in our area. In fact it's the only show our club really participates in. They know a good sports car when they see it
This is definitely true, if you look at percentages of R56 owners versus R53 owners who frequent outings and track days versus absolute numbers it's even more striking. I don't see that changing with the F56.
