Hello , just got back from so. California dealer engine light came on and 1200 dollars later head was removed to clean carbon caused by California shell and chevron. after paying this I decided to order a oil catch can to collect re-used oil entering back into the intake. Has in of you tried this....Gurtude.
Welcome to Motoring Alliance! I installed an Oil Catch Can on my MINI when it had less than a thousand miles on it. I empty a little bit of oily water out of it every couple of weeks. I haven't had a carbon build up problem, but it has less than 25000 miles on it, so as Minidave said, the jury is still out on that. Dave
Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community. In So Cal you might want to go visit Scott at Motoring Magic.
Gurtrude, I had the same thing happen on my 07 MCS....but burned a valve as well! As everyone has mentioned the catch can is up in the air, but a lot of us do it. You can build your own carbon blaster for about 75$ and a few hours later for the next time. My incident occurred at about 60K. Take care!
