My Roadster S should arrive by September's end. Undoubtedly, I will be offered any and all MINI protection plans. I assume MINI offers extended warranty and maintenance plans. Any thoughts or experiences to share?

I never get them. After the warranty is up I do all my own work. It may be better to save the money yourself.
    Others may have deferent view.

No extra warranty for me. I modded my car so much nothing was really covered any longer.

If you are going to keep the car and you are capable of doing work on it yourself or have a great non dealership shop near by skip the extended warranty.

If you are not going to keep the car and the extended warranty is transferable get it for the resale value.

    Congrats on the new car.

+1 on the independent shops. Some of the dealers do a great job supporting us so nothing agents them. But I do like to support smaller shops.

There is the catch, my friends. I'm a lawyer without any mechanical skills whatsoever. Financially speaking, I'm sure I can cover large cash outlays, if necessary. But nobody wants to pay thousands of dollars in repair costs if a one-time payment of $3,000 or so will cover anticipated warranty problems.

I only drive 6,000 miles a year, so I'm not sure if either the extended warranty or extended maintenance agreement would benefit me. Perhaps a few horror stories will convince this skeptic.

Ha! I first became a lawyer in 1985, so I've heard 'em all.

Lawyer??? Perhaps I should have put a disclaimer on my advice. Past performance is no indicator of future satisfaction. At least that's the one my wife said I should have given her.

You don't have to purchase the extended warranty and maintenance plans at time of delivery.

I'll see what kind of deal they'll offer at the time of purchase. And I will only consider the MINI extended warranty and/or maintenance plans. In the past, I've received offers from third parties when I approached expiration of the manufacturer's plans.

A lot depends on how long you plan to keep your MINI. If you are in it for the long haul maybe the extended warranty would be worth it to you. I think the service plan is a waste of money.

Good point. I may like the new MINI 'sports car' due out in 2015 or 2016, possibly resulting in the early sale of my Roadster S. Or, I may keep my MINI until until 2020 or later. Who knows. By averaging only 6k per year, my options are wide open.

Just a note... I decided to put the 7yr/100K extended on our Countryman a few days ago.

Wife plans to drive this one like she drove her Jeep, we still have her Jeep GC 2004, so you get the idea. Jeep just turned 85K not many miles for an 04.

I suspect the same on her Countryman, low miles but I don't want to get a surprise as we have had some major items replaced on RD the first year of ownership.

Peace of mind and all that! :) Don

Now if I modded the hell out of her CM, I just spent to much money on an extended warranty.

My 07 is modded and out of warranty, but I am keeping it for a couple more years.

Was your MINI dealer negotiable on the warranty price,, or was it "take it or leave it"? If you don't mind saying, how much for the 7/70? PM me if your prefer, but I'll understand if you don't want to say. "peace of mind" can be expensive and I really want to investigate the cost benefit of an extended warranty purchase. Thanks.
