Got my letter. Not that I would let the local dealer touch my MINI if it did fail.

MINI did not do this from the goodness of their heart. My guess is MINI was forced into doing this warranty extension by the NHTSA. If it was a recall it would cost MINI loads more ca$h. This is a safety issue, the CVT is not. I do agree the CVT is a box of problems.

I used to scoff at the thought of the PS pump going out being a safety issue. That was until the day my alternator failed. Once the battery was low enough my PS stopped working. My MINI became almost undriveable. If I was on a twisty road headed for a hairpin corner it would have been very unsafe.

Yeah, it actually went out on the Foothills Parkway last year on the way to Fontana and I actually had to drive the dragon as hell bender with no power steering... I also had to stop at the TOD because if muscle spasms in forearms and biceps... Luckily Eric from Helix was able to hand deliver one to me and Marzo installed it one morning.

I'm still pulling together all the paperwork and will likely get the reimbursement... If so, it's an unexpected windfall that will go right into Mods on my other cars.

If your car was built after Feb 05 I don't care when you took delivery or the "in service" date your warranty started your PS pump is not covered if it was produced after 05 / 05.

Look in your drives door jam for your production date.

They switched the pump for cars produced from March 05 on so they are not extending the warranty on those cars.

Meaning not all 2005 2006 cars are covered only one built up to Feb 05. (Including Feb)

:cornut: Aw DaveO. you don't need this warranty anyway. Spies at the Dragon reported that you don't use the steering wheel but ride your 'flaming brakes' instead.:lol::lol::lol:

I saw a post on NAM. The warranty work replaces the fan, pump, and harness. Only the harness is backordered.

Had my power steering pump + fan replaced yesterday. A relief to get it done. It went out once for me and once for my wife, both times while parking (working again when it was time to leave). Parking is when you need power steering the most, but I'm glad it didn't go out while driving in traffic.

My 2006 isn't covered under the new warranty extension. There's a rumor that MINI may expand the program to include the later 1st gens.

after dealing with intermittent stalls in the power steering (usually on the highway!), I would pull off the road at the first opportunity, turn off the engine, restart and was fine. I get the letter from MINI, after Way Motor Works posted a note about this issue, make an appointment, only to arrive and find out no more parts in stock... I drove 2 hours to the closest dealership only to be turned away for a later appointment. While things could be worse, anyone else having issues with their dealership?

So as luck would have it my PS has gone out about 3 times. It does come back though. I called the dealer to get it replaced and was told by a service writer that the parts were on back order. I asked if she would like my name to put me on a list to call when the parts arrive. I was told no just call from time to time to see if they have them. Yea right! I'm friends with one of the parts guys because I buy so many parts. So I called him. He said its a total of 9 parts they need to do the job. My dealer is missing 4 rubber mounts. He had to call me back after looking into why they didn't have the parts. He called Germany and found out they had 1400 of the in stock and another 2000 on the docks ready to ship. They are filling the orders in the order they come in from the dealers. Now the bad news a total of 4000 have been ordered. he said to call him in two weeks.
Sorry long post, I hope it helps if your like me waiting to get it fixed.

It is quite possible your car was not part of the list. Not all were affected. However, I would call MINI USA on Monday and discuss your concerns.

This is not a recall. Every manufacturer does anything they can to avoid a recall. It is a warranty extension and you must be proactive to make a warranty claim.

I find it a little unbelievable that MINI changed the part for only 2006, especially since they knew that platform was going away :skep:

Regardless, glad everyone with an '01-'05 is getting covered
