Don't get your hopes up yet. I just called Mini USA to get the particulars on how to file for this reimbursement and was told that my 2005 does not qualify. Two weeks ago I spent almost $1400.00 to get my PS system replace because of failure. I don't think they're playing very fair on this one. I hope others don't get the shaft. Shame on you you Mini USA.
This is why.... supposedly they changed the part from Feb 2005 on? When is your build date drink8648?
That's the million dollar question right now. My build date is 8/05 but I had the Pump and Fan failure like all others according to my mechanic. I have filed a complaint with Mini USA but I'm not holding my breath. Don't get me wrong, I love my car but am distrustful of the organization behind it. It took them far to long to put this maintenance bulletin in place and they were playing with owners pocketbooks and lives when you think about the safety aspect. To many times we turn our heads and we end up with the coin facing down. When it's wrong, we need to fix it and not create ******** within your brand. But then again, here's the sad truth 80,000 possibly affected X $700.00 for the pump alone $56,000,000.00 BMW Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Allegedly Defective Mini Cooper Power Steering - Class Action Lawsuits In The News | Class Action Lawsuits In The News
Not sure, but I'd say yes it has to die. Can you image the cost to BMW/MINI if every car got a new pump?
This extension is a joke if you ask me. Mini knows that the power steering pump and fan has really never been a issue. If they wanted to make themselves look good, how about warranting the trim pieces on the convertibles that cracks every two years, they never will because they know they would be paying out big bucks! Or how about warranting the crappy CVT trannys that they know are junk! Or how about the timing chain issues with the Peugeot motor? There never has been an issue with the power steering pump and they know it. JMHO
The warranty clock does not start till the car is delivered. The extension is from the in service date, not the production date.
Hmm......I'm not saying some PS pumps have not gone bad....but.....for instance, Steve at CMS said he has replaced maybe 6-7 in 7 years of business, compared to have at least double that in bad CVT's to come in.....you tell me where Mini should be helping out their customers? Few hundred dollar PS pump...or $8000. junk CVT
MINI did not do this from the goodness of their heart. My guess is MINI was forced into doing this warranty extension by the NHTSA. If it was a recall it would cost MINI loads more ca$h. This is a safety issue, the CVT is not. I do agree the CVT is a box of problems. I used to scoff at the thought of the PS pump going out being a safety issue. That was until the day my alternator failed. Once the battery was low enough my PS stopped working. My MINI became almost undriveable. If I was on a twisty road headed for a hairpin corner it would have been very unsafe.
Of course it is. I had previous discussion in mind and misread the question as asking about the date the warranty extension is based upon. That is, the date determining whether a MINI is covered rather than the date a MINI's extended warranty begins. Sorry to mislead.
