Right now the plan is for the Inno, my green car and Don's pup to go on the dyno the day before we head to SD, if nothing else we'll get baseline numbers and make sure our fuel and ignition are spot on.

Well, it turns out the dyno we use is booked thru Sept, so that isn't happening.

Plus too and also, Dan pulled the head on the Inno because - guess what - it had a damn blown head gasket! He's got it all back together now and running just fine. He also added an aluminum radiator as it was running a touch warmer than he felt comfortable with, around 200 at stops, and he added an electric cooling fan in case we wind up stopped in traffic or something.

So, he's back on the road too, and will drive it every day between now and when we leave next Sunday to get as many miles on it as possible.

Yes, you have to put a different steering rack in, to swap it is easy once the subframe is down, impossible with it in place.

Thanks guys, more as it happens.

I found a place in New York that swears they can rebuild the sending unit good as new, waiting for a quote from them. My gas tank guy said 3-4 weeks to get the tanks back so I may check around in the am for another place.

Thanks, my brother and I are driving a car up to his son in Bend, Oregon. From St. Louis. In the winter. thru the mountains. :) We'll be stopping at various friends and family's homes along the way and in Bend, then back south to the Bay area to visit our brother and sister who both live in the area. Then home.
In the meantime I'm trying to get the last bits cleaned up so I can take them to the blaster/coaters before I leave, so he can be working on them while we're gone. Unfortunately my parts washer ran out of juice, and unless I can get some more tomorrow I may be out of luck. I got one side done tonight..... Pulled the RHD steering rack out today, glad I ordered new track rod ends too WP_20190128_16_01_59_ProR.jpg WP_20190128_16_02_32_ProR.jpg - the one was really trashed, although the other end looked almost new.

While waiting for some more bits to show up I'm looking at how to remove the dash, it's quite a bit more complicated both electrically and mounts wise than a standard Mini so I'm going to take a hard look, take some pics and notes before I take it apart.

I'm a little stuck on re-assembly till the weather warms up so I can paint some bits I need next.

I need one also for detailing. I am getting old and have to sit on the floor to do lower sections of doors and rocker panels.

    100% agree.

Right now I have a nice think plush carpet in the garage with high quality padding the does a really good job. It’s wall to wall and most people say it’s more comfortable then the carpet they have installed at their homes.

Just so everyone knows it not spotless clean because it is in the garage. I vacuum it from time to time but it is very dirty and stained from car fluids and other crud.

The main point of the carpet is that it makes the floor is very comfortable to stand on for hours when detailing a car. It’s not that bad to sit on either as it blocks / insulates the cold floor very well.

Ok back to Minidaves awesome mini rebuild / restore project.

Yes it's a bodge job for sure. I have to say that knowing you this will be overcome easily. Actually I'm quite surprised you haven't found a lot more of that while rebuilding this Mini. Once you are done it will be perfect. Keep on truckin Dave.

Any car I have ever worked on where someone has supposedly fixed the wiring before was a complete pain in the arse to sort out. Have you found any lamp cord Or wire nuts yet? :Dead:
