M/A Team submitted a new Article: mini John Cooper Works knights edition to make north american premiere at lOS ANGELES... Read more about this article here...
Most important part of this article... " Confirms series production of the new MINI John Cooper Works GP for launch in 2020 Yea.. I was hoping they make it a wide body hooligan like the concept. Not sure thats going to be the case give the spy photo's..
Looks like a new Checkmate not a JCW. A friend has one from 2006 and it has the same colors and stripes. They have been nicknamed the “pants addition” because the hood stripes look like a pair of pants drying on a clothesline
And I loved the Checkmate, now we get a worthy replacement. Who knows, I might fall in love with a hardtop again.
Yea all the pictures of the Knights edition. But they also confirm there will be a GP.... what they don't say is it's not the prototype GP we saw all the pictures from. In the GP spy shots, it looks like a pretty standard GP with a wing. None of the wide body stuff.
There are two articles on it.. https://carbuzz.com/news/mini-cooper-works-gp-will-be-the-insane-mini-we-ve-always-wanted That said, I have not found a wide spread amount of information about it.
That won’t make the new GP look anything like the prototype that had at car shows. MINI / BMW does that all the time and always changes the car drastically for production.
Agreed - most manufactures do this. Every once in while they don't. Even if they made it look that way, the question would be if they put in the HP/framework to make it have the speed to match the look. In the spy shots I've seen (link above) its going to be a pretty standard GP build. Mostly stock look with big wing. Probably have a nominal power increase (compared to what they could push through that engine), less weight, bigger brakes. Will be a good platform to build I'm sure but it won't be an M car out of the box.
Agree, BMW will not allow a MINI to be better than the most basic M car. Just like Porsche with the Cayman Vs the 911.
