We have the JCW coded in the database as an option package on the S rather than a separate trim level. This started years ago, and at this point I cannot remember why.
beken and LoLowe, Unlike other reliability surveys, we post all repair descriptions so people can look at the details and see what's behind the stats. In general, most reported repairs are relatively minor. This said, we have plenty of infrequently used cars in the survey, and they don't typically have problems as a result.
mkaresh I liked your surveys and the repair descriptions that was posted with them. That being said as I stated some of the issues was due to lack of use due to being a weekend or part time driven car wouldn't keep me from purchasing a Mini but some one that didn't know might think that it was a weak or common issue in a convertable or pano roof with cables breaking, noisie operation, and repair cost some quite high which is understandable with dealer repairs. I am by no means nocking the time spent in doing this survey I think it is a awesome thing as a Mechanic I know what should be a normal wear and tear item or normal maintenance item and what I would consider a failure like changing the control arm bushings at 38,000 miles that is a flaw in the design or material of the bushing or replacing the throw out bearing on a manual transmission there is to many variables to say it is a bad part because some people keep their foot on the clutch pedal which caused premature wear to the bearing.. ok sorry the Mechanic is coming out Like I said the survey was very informative for me and gave me things to look for on my Mini and am very glad you posted it here on MA

I dunno where you are getting your stats from, but, I have an '03 R50 that has had NO problems and is a CVT to boot. I also have 2 '06 MCSas with the same stats...no problems other than the usual maintenance stuff. I keep all 3 of our MINIs serviced regularly and could not be happier with what I have.
Reliability Just wanted to ask if anyone else has had a oil line and main water pump replaced? Have an 09 w/ 45k on it and just think its a baby to have the wrong with it.
The stats come from owners participating in the survey. I'm not sure which stats you're disagreeing with. A "low" repair frequency is good. Most reliability surveys report worse scores for the Mini. Also, even with the least reliable cars you have about a 25% chance of no repairs in a given year. A sample size of two isn't indicative of much.

I never bought my MINI with reliability or fuel mileage in mind. BMW has horrible reputation for reliability and very costly repairs. I got my MINI (05) because it was unique looking and I wanted to Mod the heck out of it and have FUN driving it FAST, even in turns. Over the past 9 years I have done that and its still runs great.
Reliability is important to me, but having a fun car to drive is even more important. If my MINI was not as much fun as it is I'd have kicked it to the curb years ago. I'm still smiling & driving my MINI.
