The r53 may be a tad more reliable but she's more of a worker and the r56 is a pimp.

Hey, if your R53 ever needs some counseling to avoid having a braking meltdown just skip the "JCW" kit and throw some R56 brakes on there being as they're the same thing. Lmao :lol:.

If you decide to get really wild out there, my r56 could inseminate some of its suspension components into your r53 to make it gooder.

I don't really call them R56 brakes since they first showed up on the first gen original 2006 GP. :ihih:
After that they were added as Standard Equipment to all next generations.
The only other option for brakes is the Big Brembo JCW brakes which I do not need.

I already have the front GP JCW brakes on my car and the rear aluminum trailing arms with GP Rear brakes are in the process of being added to my car. :devil:

 

There is also Willwoods which would be a good Brembo alternative. Word on the streets is that they are virtually the same thing...

Might be a good thing for those of us who get more faded than little Wayne even on the sick r56 setup... Or excuse me, the "2006 GP setup" I should say.

 

They were originally "JCW Sport Brakes", sold by the dealer. The GP simply included them as standard.

 

But they all probably came off of a donor R56 not a GP....... RIGHT?

 

R53 has brake fade issues?

Not mine... but I'm running R56 front calipers with Pagid high carbon rotors all around, Stoptech pads & lines, and Motul fluid.

And I ran my R53 harder down the dragon this year than I ever did the GP. And that had 6-piston Brembros.

Maybe ur not running hard enough

And motul sucks.

Motul 5.1 loves to boil in my motor sickle on more than one occasion. One time it crapped so hard I lost my rear brake completely. When it comes out it is among the blackest of the blackish black... Motul is the only "racing" brake fluid that's ever changed color like that and given me problems. I will avoid it like the herps moving forward...

 

Motul 600 and 660 do not suck and I run as hard if not harder than Zillion when we are at the Dragon.
I don't have brake issues at all since I dumped those sh!tty EBC RED pads.

 

Brake threads are just like oil threads no one is ever going to agree.

I'll add my .02 here. Driving styles & braking styles vary widely among folks. I've had a couple people come up to me telling me how their brakes were toast while the ones on my car were working great & not having a problem. I was driving in front of them & leaving them in my dust. The difference? Driving styles. Some folks just over drive their brakes no matter what. Rather than buy big brake kits a few track days would improve things greatly. It's about exit speed not how late you brake.

Back on topic..... My brakes are moar better than yours.

 

I've had good luck with Ebc pads over the years. Ebc makes so many varieties. I like a sintered metal pad with a high copper content. The ebc pads I like evaporate very quickly and get a bit honky when hot, but whoo doggy do they make a good exit. I also like Brembo/Toyo pads but idk if they make them for r53/r56...

Sintered pads are dirty as hell so it would give you extra opportunity to clean your wheels since I know how you love detailing so much

Ebc yellow looks like a good un...

Ebc reds are ceramic no? (Fart). They may be clean but boy do they suck. If I used ceramic pads I would fly off the track.

What pads u running now? I actually like the OEM mini pads but may run my dirty Ebc when they go...

 

I put EBC reds on my MINI, the improvment over stock pads was apparent on the first test stop.

They don't make much dust either.

 

I ran her pretty hard this year - chasing that Exige, and a few Corvettes.

I even started deliberately leaning on the brakes to see if I could find the danger zone and never really found it.

The Stoptech pads meet my approval.

Ok, Howdy all, my first post on this forum. Just bought my new 2016 2-door Cooper a couple of weeks ago. I have got nothing but compliments on the car since the day I picked it up. Strangers come up to me in parking lots, at gas stations, and everyone at a family reunion wanted a ride... All my co-workers have praised it also... so why are MINI sales plunging? I am loving my new MINI, blast to drive, great handling, and I was able to get both a 6-year/100,000 mile extended bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 100,000-mile comprehensive maintenance plan included with mine.

Some people don't like the direction MINI has taken, trying to appeal to a larger number of people. It's is bigger and less sporty than the older cars. Take a ride in an older MINI and you'll see what I mean, they ride harsher and aren't as refined as a new MINI, but they feel like you don't have to slow down for any corners.

MINI build its brand on sporty cars with go-kart handling, there was a cheeky attitude about them. Many people feel that the marque has abandoned them by making them larger and more appealing to the masses.

I, personally, like the new MINI. Soon there will be aftermarket companies who will manufacture parts to bring back the go-kart feel of the old ones, it's a shame that the company didn't didn't do it themselves.
