It's good and satisfying to see the recent strength in Hardtop sales given that it is still considered the core of the brand.
The YTD change for the R59 speaks to the likelihood that for those whose lifestyle and means (and local climate) can support it, this model continues to elicit the most positive visceral response of any among the present MINI lineup. In the face of the absence of mainstream advertising, it's the head-turning reaction of people who see the R59 in the wild and fall in love with it that steadily sells the car.
One could make the case that the Countryman and Paceman are competing for a relatively fixed set of potential buyers and that Paceman gains are largely offset by Countryman losses. Any long-term sales trend will probably be revealed by comparing the running sum of these two models.

If I'm reading your chart correctly, Roadsters are up 46% plus for 2013. That's what I call an increase!

it looks like Paceman sales are starting to pick up

The Hardtop keeps on keeping on.....

Really this is a very poor showing for MINI, both August and 2013 YTD. Far below the numbers for the automotive industry overall or BMW.

First off, I wish they'd call the hardtop a hatchback, which it really is. The coupe is more of a hard top.
However, while Clubman sales are still low, they exceeded everything except the hard top & CM. Of course, I'm not sure there is a need for two convertible models. If they dropped on, sales of the other would surely pick up, but I understand the need for a four seat drop top in the sales niche. -
cant really really call the hardtop a hatchback because the HT isnt the only one with a hatch...you could call the first gen R50/R53 a hatchback because it was the only one at the time but now the HT, Coupe, Countryman and Paceman are all hatchbacks
