If you just take another JCW and add the GP parts, regardless of the parts being available, it still ISN'T a GP. What I mean by that is specifically in resale, a car with GP parts is not as valuable as a car that actually is the real thing.
If you don't like it, just don't get one lol simple as that. So far many of the GPs are selling, from the people who I have talked to that got one said it's truly a great car.-

I understand what your saying yellow and Dave O. Quoting another GP owner.
"Good point regarding some of the performance numbers, however you can absolutely feel a difference on the road, the extra 'oomph' isn't limited to the track. " My wife has a JCW Roadster and I had a Clubman S and the GP is totally a different cars from either of those cars. Y'all can keep hating but the GP puts a smile on my face daily and I haven't ran it up over 4k rpms yet!-

Has anyone really looked at the tire specs for the Kumho Ecsta v700's?
Kumho Ecsta V700
UTQG = 50 yup only 50 at that rate they will only last a month two if you you are lucky.
Oh and get this they are DOT dry race tires and autocross tires.
That's how they beat the original GP by only 19 secongs and that GP had crappy street run flats.
Kumho Ecsta V700
Oh for all the people that cry about the old Dunlop Star Specs Z 1 or the new ZII 's being rated at UTQG = 200 they will still last 4 times longer than the new GP II tires. Lololololo-

yellowbritishrocket - but the motors internals are different than the JCW so its like modding an S with JCW parts the heart is different!
I take it you really don't like the GP2s!? So why not get out of this area about the GP2s and let it be, good grief!-

So why don't you call MINIUSA and MINI to let them know how you feel. I agree they talked it up and did not come thru. I am sure they are not the only auto maker that does it. I doubt MINI ever will really bump the hp like we would like them too. But so far I really like my GP!

I own a 2006 GP and had a 2009 FJCW, a month ago I looked at ordering another FJCW and with everything I wanted it was stickered out at $47k… I ended up trading the 09 for the GP2 and saved 7 thousand dollars and it is absolutely an awesome car. Did I really need all that other stuff, NO… I just don’t know why everyone talks so badly about the GP2. People buy what they want and if you don’t like it then good for you and buy something else. Like I said, I have the 06 and the 13 and they are both fantastic cars…. OK, I don’t have nav, MINI connect, cruise or radio controls but I don’t really care. I love everything about the GP2 and it gets thumbs up everywhere I go. Both MINIs are my weekend cars and I want a driver’s car and that’s what the GP2 is in my opinion. I could have easily ordered the FJCW but chose not to. I will say I had my own terrible thoughts about the GP2 when it came out since I own the original but after driving it I wouldn’t have it any other way… in 5yrs a $47 FJCW with be worth whatever the market value is, probably $15-$18k and the GP2 will be worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it and that will be way more than a FJCW…. Go drive one and see for yourself…. The GP went up 9k in 6 years, it’s called inflation….

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to take a R56 GP “around the parking lot” during MINIPalooza this year, thanks FlynScot0256. I only took two laps but the down and dirty: nice comfy seats, quick (In GP Mode) and great brakes!
I am not a great fan of the fact that R56 GP parts are available to everyone. A lot of people don’t think the R53 GP is all that special but they get pretty ticked off when you won’t give them your vin so they can order parts.
As far as the return on a GP, unless it is a hanger queen and even then it will only be worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I have seen people asking more for FJCWs than GPs and getting it. The GP is never going to be in the category of a Plymouth Superbird or a Mustang Shelby GT500.
The grandson has dibs on it so selling it is out of the question. Until then it will continue to be my DL.:cornut:, Oh yea, I am still partial to the R53 GP!-

the R53 is far more rare...the GP2 is a stock color you can get on any JCW...the engine is the same(they changed the tune)...the seats are a stock option as well as the leather dash(sans red stitch)...and the other thing is all of the parts are purchasable...so in theory you can get a bog standard JCW hardtop in Eclipse gray...get a silver vinyl roof done and put all of the parts on the car and aside from the stickers they would be identical...its hard to pull that off with the R53 GP as the paint was a one off...the aero package is unique as well...you see a GP Aero package and its instantly recognizable...
im waiting for someone to de sticker a GP2...you will be left with a JCW with red accents-

its eclipse gray with one slight darker shade...i saw the two colors side by side and really couldnt tell much of a difference...
honestly its hard to call them Faux GP's when if you strip the stickers away you have a stock looking JCW...i think the other models will look better than the GP with the parts on them
well the problem is you have to look at fuel ratings between here and the EU...the highest here is 93 pump gas...over there its much higher so they are getting more power that way...the tunes are the same its just they get higher octane gas-

Strip the parts and sticker (yech) off of the GP2...what do you have? you have a slightly darker gray JCW with the red accent kit
strip the sticker off of the GP1...oh hey its still a GP! you cant mistaken the GP1...ive seen a couple of pictures posted on facebook of people driving their GP2's and quite a few comments where asking if it was infact a GP!
i continue to lambast MINIUSA and MINI constantly about their laziness about this "GP"
i was among many who were excited to hear about a 2nd GP...but when i saw it finally...i was beyond disgusted with what mini did...instead of substance they took style...211hp? really? so once again another MINI is released that is stock less hp than my almost 10yr old R53
so in the world of JCW tuning...they went from 208hp to 211hp...so across 2 generations and multiple engines...they have gained 3 hp-

i went back and read that introduction announcement they put out for this car a few months ago and was amusing how much mini tried to use technical jargon to make a bog standard N18 JCW sound special...i suppose this is the factories attempt to mod a JCW into a GP

its a bog standard N18 JCW motor with the European Tune...thats all it is...nowhere in the introduction letter MINI put out talking about the specs that the engine was redone...like i said it was a jargon filled ramble talking about the stock engine...even motoringfile pointed that out...and if you read some of my other rants about the 2nd gen special editions...its been pretty much the same...lack of creativity and a general laziness...plus...i think all of the colors that mini has used for their special editions have ended up being available for any MINI the next model year
