couple of things i found odd...1 they did not sell all of the GP's...2nd...how many of these damn things are in the US...i talked to a dealership that got 9 of them...many dealers got a handful each...so it begs the question...are there really only 500 of them and maybe the reason why they didnt number them at first is so there can be more and not get called out?

There are only about 120 or so dealers. Each dealer can easily get more than 1.
-
most dealers got about 3-4 of them but some have gotten as many as 9!

what i love in that letter is that is says its rare? only rare thing about it is that its that one is rarely left with money in the bank after buying one...
kinda hard to say its rare when all of the parts are available for purchase and the part numbers are out there...friend of mine already put the diffuser on his coupe -

Well I'd have to say the complete car is the rare item, maybe limited edition would have been better wording. If there's only 500 out of 2000 that is rare. Is the R53 GP not rare also?

I agree that making all of the parts for the GP2 available to anyone is going to create a lot of faux-GP's.
I just think it's a shame that the US GP2's have less horsepower than the Euro GP2's. -
Id rather save the extra coin on the GP2 and almost on the JCW and get the S. For far less than the sticker of a JCW or GP2, an S can in every way out perform those cars with a few mods.
GP2 to me is just an elitest thing to say I have a GP2.
I think there will be far less replica GP2s than people think. And the argument could be had about MCS's that have the JCW areo kit, even though they are not a JCW and vice versa.
All in all if people want to spend their money on them go ahead.
Continue on about how your R53s are so much better. yada yada yada. -

Sorry but the new GP 's are a very weak example of a "special or limited" car.
They used the "one off" uniqueness of the original GP to sucker people into buying a stock JCW with extra stickers, coil overs and crap DOT track tires.
I do like the brakes. Hahahahahaha -
I went back and read some of your rants and the article. Y'all right just a 56 with stickers, nothing else!
But if this is the MF article on the GP you are referring to then I must be confused. http://www.motoringfile.com/2012/11/09/motoringfile-first-drive-2013-mini-jcw-gp/ -
"If you read between the lines of what MINI is telling us, it would seem that dramatic power increases in the JCW power plant were simply off the table. The GP is equipped with the same 1.6L engine found in the standard JCW cars save for the Countryman. MINI massaged the engine electronically to increase power from 208 to 218 in most markets. However in the US, thanks to potential homologation costs for such short production run, the output is only bumped to 211. This gives the GP 0-60 times of around six seconds. The fastest MINI yet but clearly not at the upper echelon of mid-priced performance cars. So without a significant power increase, what is the measure of performance? Simple. The ‘Ring. The benchmark became to create a new GP that was dramatically faster around the Nurburgring Nordschleif, but with only a modest power bump."
Electronically increased to 211 hp....aka Euro Tune -
I wouldn't mind having one of those key chains but I'm guessing they were for pre-orders and not off the lot purchases.
Ps: I de-stickered my GP2 and have no regrets about it! -
