I have known a few guys like that. I remember this one guy that always got FTD at the autoX. Once he brought a stock Maxma and took FTD even with several modifies running that day.
The key to success on this project is the styling. If MINI is able to take all of the constraints of existing platform architecture and mandated safety standards, and still make a beautiful and compelling roadster, they would go a long way to re-establishing the enthusiasm that they enjoyed a decade ago.
Let's see MINI makes a nice roadster that not many buy. MINI drops the roadster. Now MINI is going to make a roadster with F56 bones. Yes that will work.
Agree, but if they want the same sort of enthusiasm they enjoyed a decade ago they'll also need to keep the price down.
They need to picture of the F56 on the design wall and spay paint "Bloody Ugly" over it so they remember. Or maybe a huge mirror on the wall that says: "This is what failure looks like!" <-- How's that for a stupid motivational poster.
Since two of my favorite cars are the MINI and the Miata, I should be crazy about this thing, right? Or at least look at it somewhat favorably. But I can't warm up to it, it's like ketchup and ice cream together to me. The MINI brand is supposed to have some identity, and folks this just ain't it. Perhaps if the roadster was branded as a Triumph or something (BMW still owns the rights to that name I believe), that would help. Honestly, anything other than calling it a "MINI" would be a step in the right direction. I'd probably feel the same way if Mazda created a hot hatch like a VW GTI (or a Cooper S  )and then tried calling that car a Miata...
FYI, one of MINI's higher ups has come out and said this has not been green-lighted as claimed by CAR. And as for the F-series bashing, it's about time to move on. The cars are made and will continue to be made. Don't like it? Don't buy one. But don't keep dragging threads off-topic because it's been 5 minutes since someone's bashed the F-series cars (Dave).
^^^ It's all a front....Dave is infatuated with the F56... The local MINI dealer keeps a F56 warmed up because Dave arrives incognito every Saturday for a test drive in a F56... He's generally gone for a couple of hours getting his fix... When he returns he's sweaty and his beard is all fluffy from the excitement... The SA is very understanding.... "See you next Saturday Dave"...
