I have never wanted to go on MTTS because it seems like a 1 or two week MINI funeral drive.

So slow and too many LXM idiot drivers.

    I’ll pass.

Rats! I would go, but it starts right in the middle of MOTD and I already signed up for the Donut Run. :Whistling:

I could have sworn I posted here. Is there another MTTS thread?

I am thinking about joining in when they pass through Dallas. I'd like to go up to the Keystone stop, and visit family I have up that way.

I would probably go back to Dallas from there.

Dave.0, for obvious liability reasons, MTTS can't be a Cannonball Run kind of drive, but I still get to hang out with some MINI enthusiasts, hopefully eat some good food, and as a bonus, visit family. If I lived in Philly, I wouldn't make the long drive just to be a part of it, but since it runs through my city, and goes somewhere I want to go, I'm good.

Brock Yates shut it down years ago. It is now an individual run thing. I know Dennis and Richard, who used to hold the record. I got to talk to Dennis about the drive in person, and it was a fascinating story.

Richard really never had the record, he just didn’t know Alex had already done it. Alex was faster then Richard but the way Richard and Dennis did it was impressive! Brut force.

I know of all the controversies, but Dennis and Richard did have the record... for a while. Records are meant to be broken.

The problem was always verification. In recent years, record breakers were able to use satellite tracking to verify time and route.

BTW, the heavily modded 550 Maranello belonged to Dennis, and he was the lead driver. Richard was the co-driver. People either love or hate Richard, so that certainly is a part of the controversy.

Oh yea don't get me wrong I like Richard and if he said he and Dennis broke the US express record I believe them. If you read Alex Roys book he has nothing to say but good things about Richard and Dennis. I may be off on the timing so perhaps they had the record for a short time. Alex has continuous run video and receipts of the gas stops so he could prove They broke the record. At the end of the documentary 32:07 they make a call to Richard to tell him. Its funny and good completion between friends.
At any rate I thank it takes a big pair of brass ones to even try. You are lucky to have talk to Dennis about it, I bet that was one hell of a story. Your name should be Lucky dog not CD:D

I have photographed a few dozen of Dennis' and Richard's cars. That's how I met them. My fifteen milliseconds of TV fame were the two times I appeared on Richard's show. Seriously, they were blink-and-you-miss-me appearances. I just happened to be in the background. :D

I was part of a group of people who were hanging out with Dennis at a pre-auction cocktail party, as he told us the story. We asked him if he would ever want to do it again, and he gave us an emphatic, "NO." It took his body and brain weeks to recover from the effort. I don't doubt it.
