The day after driving home from a BBQ (having driven very spiritedly along the highway for about 1/2 an hour) I noticed this strange treardrop running down the driver's side wheel arch. I check under the hood and nothing obvious. Nothing from down below either. It was also bone dry on the roads.

Has anybody ever had this before or have a clue what could've caused it?

The first photo is with the bonnet closed, the second with the bonnet lifted.

    What year is your car?

The 1st gen cars had their headlight washer/windshield washer bottle right there - cap could be loose or off.

Are you sure your MINI didn't into some of that BBQ sauce?

Possibly cosmoline leaking out with the high temperatures.

Is it oily? or water? Did you use you washers? Leaking washer hose?

No BBQ sauce or windshield washer used. When I wiped it off it wasn't greasy or colored and it didn't leave a stain on the wheel arch.

I have heard of cosmoline leaking in that area onto the arches. You were probably lucky and got it off before it stained. I know a couple of folks who had arches changed under warranty when it happened.

You may need some Cosmonot from Prima.

Cosmoline. All the holes, in the underside of the bonnet, are coated inside.
Noticed this on a 2010 S last weekend.

But for the Cosmonot to work I would need to find the source and wipe it clean, correct?

Yes, that would be best, but it will also clean any that did seep out.
