I wonder who the class leader is for carbon buildup in the 1.4 - 1.8 and 1.8 - 2.0 liter category?

Awards need to be recognized for this achievement....:p

Some direct injection engine manufacturers have put a extra fuel injector in the intake manifold to introduce fuel into the intake air, so that it would wash the oil mist from the intake valves.

Some of the new engine designs are not pushing the oil into the intake. They route it back to the oil pan. After all it is the same stuff that trickles back down from the head.

VW/Audi are also doing dual injectors. Intake injection under low loads, direct-injection under medium-high loads. It is supposed improve efficiency and reduce emissions in addition to preventing carbon buildup.

:cornut:Metalman, I promise that I'm not trolling here:lol::lol: but I would really like to hear your thoughts and possible solutions to solving this problem as opposed to just 'walnut shell treatment' every X# of miles or as necessary.

Don't forget... If the motoring tabloids are correct.... BMW/MINI is apparently going to address the carbon issue with the new engine architecture... Elimination of the stratified charged DI and going back to port injection....:D

Wow that would cost a lot of efficiency just for getting rid of carbon build up when there are other choices.

"Engine of the Year" was actually the Ford 1.0L EcoBoost... for the second year in a row. The MINI/BMW/Peugeot 1.6L was a 'class' win. BMW had a total of four EOY class wins. Very impressive.
