Now even the US has been dragged into this! Since the US apparently bans the butchering and sale of horse meat*, it has no controls on what drugs are used on horses (and hence may be present in their meat) but exports them to Canada and Mexico where they then get re-exported elsewhere, such as Europe, potentially ending up in the human food chain.

Ain't international trade wonderful?

* Really? There's no way you could sell horse meat to the public in Britain, but putting it in pet food has always been acceptable. In France and Germany, dedicated butcher's shops dealing only in horse meat used to be widespread, though they are much less common nowadays.

 

:cornut: The Comanchies ate horse meat so what's the problem(as long as it's advertised as such)? I've been is survival situations where this would have been a delicasy but, again, the buyer must be made aware.
