Dubbed the 50 Mayfair and the 50 Camden, MINI launched the limited edition models at the marque’s 50th birthday party at the United Festival at Silverstone in Great Britain. The MINI Mayfair is a throwback to the 1982 model of the same name and is available in Hot Chocolate, Pepper White and Midnight Black. No matter the color, the Mayfair is set off by a white roof. The Mayfair also features unique badging celebrating MINI’s 50th anniversary and the brand’s top-level stereo. The 50 Mayfair package is available on all MINI models – including Cooper, Convertible and Clubman – for one model year starting in September. The 50 Camden model is named after the UK borough and is available in White Silver metallic, Midnight Black metallic and Blue metallic, all with a contrasting white roof. The Camden’s 17-inch wheels are also unique to the model. Like the Mayfair model, the Camden sports a grille-mounted 50th anniversary badge and is available on all MINI configurations. Despite MINI’s U.S. popularity, there are no plans to sell either model on our shores. I think the name Mayfair is just too feminine and will be a turnoff for buyers. On the Camden, a white roof on a light silver car doesn't seem convincing to me, but I'd have to see it in person. An interesting item in the press release is the mention of a new HiFi system. Gabe (MotoringFile) says it is a replacement for the current HiFi option, which received a lot of criticism. MotoringFile believes they will be offered here like other packages in the past (e.g. Sidewalk and Checkmate). The Camden wheels have such a solid face that they look like wheel covers rather than alloy wheels.
That may be the point of offering two special packages, the Mayfair for female buyers and the Camden for males. Either way I think the colors, grille badge, and new stereo will be available here as individual options so you can build your own 50th anniversary model.
Yup very old-school retro styling which seems appropriate for a 50th anniversary car. I personally love the Mayfair. The other one is too bland for me.
I don't see those wheels as being retro styled. They look like smaller versions of VIP or DUB style wheels which have come to favor less open space between the spokes compared to more traditional wheels.
It's Connaught Green, a flatter, not metallic version of BRG. The car is festooned with every bit of Carbon Fiber in the JCW catalog as well.
I wish they would make it in really flat (you know, the dull kind) of BRG, like all those cool BMWs and Mercs on another thread. I'd love to paint my car flat dark silver.
The inside of the headlights are painted either black, or to match the body color (or in my case, a combination of the two).
I have to agree. They look kinda like the wheel covers on my Subie Outback, and I imagine they're not especially efficient at keeping the brakes cool. That's really the only major nit I have with the Camden; the rest of the design I like I lot. The Mayfair doesn't do much for me, I'm not into brown autos and I'm still not convinced about the aqua-colored stitching on the seats.
I used to own a Black Mayfair when I was stationed in Germany. I bought it for $1200 if you can believe that.
