Warranty costs can be controlled by making a good reliable car.

Make an unreliable car and then push the cost to support warranties over on the owners??? Not a good long term strategy if you want to keep a loyal customer base....

I think its a great idea because the new F56 is the best MINI ever made and no one will want to trade it in before 4 years so this is really a Non-issue.

YAY MINI and the house of BMW.

Well, Dave, I guess if you are REALLY so put out with "MINI and the house of BMW" you could suggest that they sell the MINI out to FIAT!

Obviously, you haven't read the new story. It's says the second owner will have to pay $300 for having the leaks maintained.

I doubt MINI even knew anything about the story before it appeared. It smells to me like the boys at MF were trying to be relevant and newsworthy and ran a story from a bad source - and then kept changing it and unposting it and reposting it and changing it all day long while they checked the facts.

Now the story is a couple of bullet points buried three stories deep on the home page, with a note that says the story was wrong (like it was the story's fault). I would have been a lot happier if the guys admitted they screwed up, said they're sorry and told us they've taken steps to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

Doesn't do much for MF's credibility, does it? Wow - talk about biting the hand that feeds you ...

Reflect back on Bank of America's ill conceived idea to add usage fees to their credit cards. The huge hue and cry of their customers pushed back and the idea was run thru the shredder. Maybe a similar campaign could have a similar effect.

That is a great idea, because it would be a cheaper car and have lots of dealers ships across the US to service them.

We're going to have to coexist-- I'm not a fan of either 56's, but there are many R56 owners that are just as enthusiastic as us R53 owners (I would temper that by saying a higher percentage of R53 owners are enthusiasts than R56 owners, but that's a different debate), and I suspect we'll have plenty of F56 enthusiasts soon. BMW is taking MINI in a direction many of us don't agree with, but we're in the minority--hopefully the community will have enough enthusiasts to keep it large and viable; time will tell.

People just have to keep in mind hating on a car isn't the same as hating on the owner; if everyone takes a deep breath whenever someone (inappropriately) slams an R53, or (correctly) slams an R56/F56, all will be well.

As for the F56, IF BMW comes out with a 300HP GP version, I predict there will be a few likes....

And Dave, if you're going to have the world's longest sig, and make me read all that, the least you can do is change that "do" to "of". Church do MINI sounds uncomfortably like a bunch of Catholic priests doing naughty thing to a small car; the religion has suffered enough recently, give it some slack...

Now MotoringFile has updated the title to say "Rumor", and
Perhaps a leak planted to test reactions?
