BMW read what was going on here on MA and quickly changed their minds, happens all the time....

Poor MF is now going to be on the BMW naughty list, and isn't going to get all those free trips to Puerto Rico or wherever, with assorted meals and goodies, so they may write an unbiased review. They've already lost their credibility--they went from a being a good, independent information site to BMW's mouthpiece a long time ago.
If they irritate BMW to the point that they don't get to be the mouthpiece anymore, they really have nothing left. But I doubt that will happen; they'll probably get a wrist slap and nothing else, it serves BMW's purpose for MF to be their neutered biatch.-

Can't wait to see how MINI USA spins this as a good change for buyers.

It will hurt the resale value if the new owners can't use the rest of the warranty. I wounder if this is to push the certified pre-owned for the dealers.
-
I'm sorry MINI is on the edge of way over priced! Look at the GP2, my dealer can't get rid of the last one! I would laugh in there face if I went to buy a car and this was the deal.
-
Practically speaking, this will kill MINI in the U.S. What does this policy say to potential buyers, other than "At MINI, we build crap cars - and we won't stand behind them?" In addition, I never keep my daily drivers past the warranty period, and I always use "remaining factory warranty" as a selling point.
In all my years around the car business, I have never seen a more carefully considered and self-destructive decision. Bye-bye, MINI. -

Its that damn good. You just have to trust ($$$) MINI and the house of BMW they know much more than you and I. They will provide us everything we will ever want. -

Its a great car and we are not allowed to say anything bad about it or MINI AT ALL.
No real feelings or opinions are allowed, This has to be an R56 love fest or you and M\A are labeled a haters. -

I like my R56....rrr:
-
Wow....
Most of the industry is moving to longer warrenties .....
And mini makes theirs nontransferable from the new owner....guess that helps to kill resale value.....ouch...sure..it "might" be transferable with a fee...lol...now mini is screwing new owners before the sale!!!
I guess they will likely still sell used cars with various warranties...CPO, ETC...and maybe they hope this move will drive all sales of used MINI's to the dealers .....but as an owner, knowing I am getting SCREWED if I sell my car Before The warrenty expires due to percieced lost value....doesn't this devalue a new car?
Say I buy a new f56....
Drive it for 3 months...decide it is not for me....and sell it...now a 3,000 mile car for sale...no warrenty!! Think of the $$$ hit....worse than before. Simply adds risk to buying a car...why chance it...the cost to transfer the remaing warrenty will be deducted directly from the value of the car....
Wow...
MINI, what the fu$k are you thinking?! -
The more I hear about changes with the f56....
The more I like it too!! Heck.....the warrenty actually meant something!! -

never gonna happen in the US
consumer laws being what they are, especially in California, I don't see this happening here. I am certain if you offer a warranty on an automobile in the United States, that warranty cannot legally be altered in this manner. It is a PRODUCT wtty, not a buyer wtty.
US sales are way too important for any car company to ignore, and succeed. -
Warrenty transfer fees are not new...uncommon yes...but not new..
I would find it hard to believe that info like this would be leaked, even if just to check for feedback, if legal had not said it was a viable plan in all the us states....
Is everything mini/BMW does imo ..no...but generally well planed and thought out..yes...very methodically done...typically what you would expect from a German....
Sure...they can "walk back" this plan and back off....but it gives real insight into the internal workings of BMW/mini and their views of their typical customer....
Perhaps it is part of a bigger plan to lease the vast majority of cars....would make sense....
Less modding (they also keep control over scheduled mataince..ensuring dealer profits)....lower monthly payments....chance to sell the car at full retail...then resell as a used CPO car.....then sell repairs...and then upsell to a newer car when the repairs are to $$$...heck anybody see the $9000 2006 mini cooper inspection thread on NAM?? Scare an owner....then lease them a new car....
From a business standpoint, you make car sales VERTICALLY INTERGRATED....ensuring you maxmize profits at each level...squeezing out the small guys... -
UPDATE: The story has been removed from the Motoring File website. If they ran the story based on bogus sources, shame on them. -
