Wow.... Most of the industry is moving to longer warrenties ..... And mini makes theirs nontransferable from the new owner....guess that helps to kill resale value.....ouch...sure..it "might" be transferable with a fee...lol...now mini is screwing new owners before the sale!!! I guess they will likely still sell used cars with various warranties...CPO, ETC...and maybe they hope this move will drive all sales of used MINI's to the dealers .....but as an owner, knowing I am getting SCREWED if I sell my car Before The warrenty expires due to percieced lost value....doesn't this devalue a new car? Say I buy a new f56.... Drive it for 3 months...decide it is not for me....and sell it...now a 3,000 mile car for sale...no warrenty!! Think of the $$$ hit....worse than before. Simply adds risk to buying a car...why chance it...the cost to transfer the remaing warrenty will be deducted directly from the value of the car.... Wow... MINI, what the fu$k are you thinking?!
Lol...no shame in that. The more I hear about changes with the f56.... The more I like it too!! Heck.....the warrenty actually meant something!!
never gonna happen in the US consumer laws being what they are, especially in California, I don't see this happening here. I am certain if you offer a warranty on an automobile in the United States, that warranty cannot legally be altered in this manner. It is a PRODUCT wtty, not a buyer wtty. US sales are way too important for any car company to ignore, and succeed.
While I find the info on what might be planned stunning.... Warrenty transfer fees are not new...uncommon yes...but not new.. I would find it hard to believe that info like this would be leaked, even if just to check for feedback, if legal had not said it was a viable plan in all the us states.... Is everything mini/BMW does imo ..no...but generally well planed and thought out..yes...very methodically done...typically what you would expect from a German.... Sure...they can "walk back" this plan and back off....but it gives real insight into the internal workings of BMW/mini and their views of their typical customer.... Perhaps it is part of a bigger plan to lease the vast majority of cars....would make sense.... Less modding (they also keep control over scheduled mataince..ensuring dealer profits)....lower monthly payments....chance to sell the car at full retail...then resell as a used CPO car.....then sell repairs...and then upsell to a newer car when the repairs are to $$$...heck anybody see the $9000 2006 mini cooper inspection thread on NAM?? Scare an owner....then lease them a new car.... From a business standpoint, you make car sales VERTICALLY INTERGRATED....ensuring you maxmize profits at each level...squeezing out the small guys...
My guess... test the waters....then walk it back... then in a couple years...try it again...will not sound as crazy... by the 3rd time..folks think it is OK... Heck...done that way in politics all the time!!
A smart company wouldn't do this type of "trial balloon" - especially one with a reputation for less-than-stellar quality. Every minute MINI waits in confirming or denying this rumor will be incredibly damaging to the company. UPDATE: The story has been removed from the Motoring File website. If they ran the story based on bogus sources, shame on them.
Now watch for a press release denouncing the ridiculous and malicious rumor and stating that they would never do anything that isn't in the best interest of their customers.
+1 UPDATE #1: Motoring File ran it, and Motoring File made it disappear. Did they trust bad sources? Did they run the story without checking it out? Why didn't they wait for confirmation or denial from MINI? What a strange thing to do to their cash cow! UPDATE #2: A new story has been posted at Motoring File.
Not necessarily a good thing to post rumors.... Got's to keep BMW a happy camper if you still want them invites to PR....
Yup.....has gone from the 'FUN and HONEST enthusiast site" to the BMW/MINI pr outlet.....as it has become more of a JOB for the folks that run it, and less of a hobby....its usefulness is less... Kinda like White-roof radio (podcast)....sad times IMO. One more choice... was the FIRST incomplete article just CLICK BAIT....to drive rumors to get extra page views..to sell more adds??
So you guys think Motorfile and MINI / BMW are different? They are the same thing. Just buy the new F56 and do as your told and don't ask anymore questions.
Oh my gosh the warranties are shrinking & the new F56 has leaks planted in it. Will it leak only for the second owner out of warranty?
Obviously, you haven't read the new story. It's says the second owner will have to pay $300 for having the leaks maintained.
Perhaps Barry (MC2) is now working with MINI USA Ooops MotoringFile. I don't think so nothing was spelled wrong so who knows. Buy the new F56 its the greatest MINI ever!
Fixed that for you. How dare you put down the "New Original" F56. :mad5: * "Lifetime" refers to when you have your first problem or as soon as you drive it off the lot"
And now the new story is gone from the Motoring File home page. How far off were these guys? :confused5::crazy:
