Hey, I may be addicted to the site, but I'm no user:lol: And now that I got us to this page, no problems Mark
There did seem to be an issue with the video. The source was not working well. I found a new version and have that loaded now. Also added the interview with the Porsche driver.
Cool, longest multiple quote I've done:lol: Told yarrr:, it was the link, not the user, I mean abuser, no no no, I mean it was not me:lol::lol::lol: Mark
Anyone know where the interview videos ended up? I was an interviewee and would love to see how silly I look on camera...
got to say....this is the biggest "choke'' in recent marketing history. MINI blew it (despite apparently putting on a 'fun' event').
I'm not seeing that. Might be a result of the Kool-Aid but when mainstream sites like AutoGuide.com have a headline such as Porsche Beats MINI at its Own Game, MINI Still Comes Out On Top it shows the marketing worked. This was an over the top marketing gimmick that played well in New York and Peoria, using the classic propaganda technique of Transfer. MINI did just that. By latching onto the Porsche coat tails in such a cheeky manner they reinforced the whole "Fun" nature of a MINI. Porsche was stunned, they had no idea how to deal with the yapping lap dog of a car nipping at their back tires. Their very stern and steadfast reply was stereotypical staid German and continue eating their sandwich with a fork and knife cut into perfect squares. Now the question becomes how does MINI deal with Hyundai waving it arms in the corner. Now that's a side of this that has very little press so far. * Transfer
MINI isn't going to 'steal' any market share from Porsche. For me, this thing wreaks of tabloid journalism....say something outlandish to make a buck. Bait-And-Switch Badvertising Ruined Mini vs. Porsche
True, don't think any Porsche owners will be trading in for a MINI but I think it was a big win for MINI in that they had nothing to lose in it and Porsche had nothing to gain really.. If they win well dang you should have and if they lost dang you let a MINI beat you!! I'm sure MINI wanted to win of course but even now that they lost but made a good showing some people might be thinking "Hey for less then half the money I can have a very fun car to play with" and keep the Porsche in the garage!!
Funny thing was, I don't think the MINI driver was pushing it. While reviewing my photos, the rear wheel wasn't off the ground even once.
I'm with PGT on this one. It was lame. I know some folks on MINI boards were delighted and felt it was geinius marketing, and maybe it got a little attention, but Hyundai beat MINI at it's own game. With a single response, inviting MINI to enter real racing, Porsche swatted the gnat known as McDowell.
Unfortunately the ratio of "Performance MINI" owners to the "Artsy Mini" owners doesn't lend itself to the real racing crowd (as evidence of the recent posting from Motoringfile of the "Typical MINI Owner Demographics"). Hopefully we'll see change in MINI's plans for the future of their marque.
I was kind of thinking the same thing. It might have been another story if Paddy had been driving the MINI. :yesnod: I too think it was a win/win. Jim
