This pdf was sent to me. For those of you with an affected MINI is should prove interesting. BMW Letter to NHSTA about Water Pump Recall
Wow, 81 cases of pump failure worldwide resulting in 4 engine bay fires - worldwide, and they recall 90,000 cars. I think there are more than 81 cases of timing chain failure just on NAM and M/A alone, yet nothing is being done for those folks......unless they are well in warranty......interesting......
Yes, but tensioner issues don't lead to fiery death, which seems to be the primary motivator for the NHTSA.
Thanks for posting all the details... Now I know that my JCW Clubman is one of 865 - sweet! No wonder I don't' see any others on the road...
An interesting little bit of side research on the online parts sites reveals that there have been no less than FOUR iterations of the aux water pump in the history of the fielded N14/N18 engine. Here are the actual part numbers and valid dates: N14/N18 Aux Water Pump PN 11537577510 up to 11/2009 ENDED PN 11537603976 up to 9/2010 PN 11537619360 up to 10/2011 PN 11537630369 current The valid date of the latest and greatest part doesn't seem to correlate with the end date of Oct 2010 for the recall period (Jan 2011 for the R60). I guess one could speculate that the dates in the letter represent the points in time when the factory assembly line started using the newest part. The earlier versions of the pumps were probably still kicking around in the supply inventory for the first three quarters of 2011. Presumably, with the reality of the recall these earlier parts have been, or will be, pulled off the shelves. (?)
Hmmm, that's interesting. So you're saying that they don't even have a new pump yet, or at least a part number posted for it?
I presuming that the PN 11537630369 is the new aux pump since it's been in the supply system since last November (and it's evidently good/safe enough for all of the recently manufactured vehicles [like mine :arf:] that, according to the letter, aren't subject to the recall).
