Part of the appeal of MITM/MTTS was a reason to see some parts of the country that I have always wanted to see and photograph. Before hitting Winter Park I followed parts of old route 66 through Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. Then I headed north to Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley in AZ and then Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park in UT. As I sort through the literally thousands of shots I took I wanted to share some of the notable ones. Hope you get something out of em' Springfield MO City Hall Old Hotel Sign Old Route 66 Completely restored Art Deco style gas station Abandoned station (must of been a beauty back in the day)
Thanks for posting all your pictures, I will have to view over at Flickr since your links appear suppressed. No biggie, I like to see travel pictures. Nice seeing you up in WP. Don You appear to be playing with posting code, I will come back later. lol
Love the old Route 66 pics - where's that restored gas station? Margaret & I are continuing our MTTS 2010 with a slow drive back to Florida; we headed South from Denver to Durango, to Mesa Verde, down to Socorro, down to Pecos and now across to San Antonio where we are now, before heading towards New Orleans and eventually back to Orlando area
Great shots of a disappearing America. The MINI just looks right in those settings. The Prius, however, I really can't imagine there... :frown2:
very cool pictures. i enjoy places that keep the older styles alive. it also reminds me of "cars" by disney
I thought of that movie often taking I-40 West (route 66's interstate replacement) of Albuquerque to Gallup NM. It is def the landscape that inspired Pixar. Thought I was in Radiator Springs!
Back in the 60's Chevy did a commercial where they put a convertible up on top of that point with a model in an evening gown standing there and waving as the camera plane/helicopter did fly-by's. Hope she earned a bunch of $$$$$ for that one!
Some very nice pictures. I love the old abandoned buildings and gas stations. It makes me want to stop and see what is inside and left behind, perhaps a classic still on the lift or over the oil changing hole. Was day 3 the last? Thanks for sharing, I love road trips. Don
Nice work Tim. Thanks for sharing. Don't forget we have a Flickr group for MITM 2010 at: Flickr: MITM WP 2010
I'm coming to the MITM/MTTS shots so I'll throw a couple on this site Got some pictures of a pretty dirty Chili Red Cabrio that is covered in Union Jacks to share too. Must be your evil twin Chuck!
That would be a even longer day! The ruins are at Canyon de Chelley which is about 2hrs south of Monument Valley
