I used to live in Sandy Eggo and miss it terribly, so I'm planning to go next summer - anyone wanna go with?
I would like to go to a MMW being new to classic Minis. It sounds like these might become a thing of the past being the demographic of the owners and clubs not willing to host the event. I can't commit to anything this early so I don't want to let anyone down. I ran it by the boss and she thinks I am crazy to drive there and back but I really think it should be done that way ie no trailer ride. But I know that a trailer or a tow could happen. My Mini has a speed impediment. Its a 998cc Automatic that seems to handle 55 to 60 mph well enough and 65 down hill. So I avoid the Interstate Highway where folks are going 75 to 80. I'm going to start making my seat cooler so I will be ready to go. I think I will head over and take the MMW2016 survey. RobertM
It's way early....nothing official is out yet except the location. I was just excited to find it in my old home town! It's usually held mid summer, in July. I'm going to need this much time to get ready for the drive! A friend of mine drove his classic to MMW 2015 in Abbotsford, BC from Atlanta this past summer - you can read his tale here.... On the way to MMW2015 And his get ready work here..... Long haul mods It's about 1100 miles from Denver, 1600 for me from KC. I'm thinking 3 days out and 3 back, 3 for the event and maybe a couple more while I'm there to see old friends and such. No question it would be an easier drive towing the classic and cruising in my 2009 Clubby with A/C and cruise control....but my plan is to drive the classic....at least for now.
I added MMW 2016 to the events section. Once a date is know please let me know. Mini Meet West (TBD) San Diego, CA - Motoring Alliance :: MINI Cooper Forums
I've read there are two weeks that are available and being considered for MMW. The week of June 6th and the week of June 20th. A poll has been offered up over on Mini Mania that has the latter week in the lead. Not my choice, but that won't likely deter me from making the short haul south.
June is the worst month for weather in Sandy Eggo, they have what's known as June gloom....where the changing weather patterns (desert warming up) cause it to be overcast and cool til 11 am or so, then it burns off till about 2 pm when the gloom comes roaring back again. So the later in the month the better.... I'd prefer July or August, but I'll come no matter when they hold it. Just bring some warm clothes and don't plan to spend a lot of time on the beach....or in the ocean. Water's cold that time of year! Any idea where they would hold the event? Somewhere in Mission Valley? Where is the MINI dealer, Kearney Mesa?
Dates firmed up, website launched but just getting going at this point.... Mini Meet West 2016 June 6-9, 2016
Nah, Buzz has been running really well. But I do have one project in mind, if/when I go ahead with it I'll document it here. Next weekend - weather permitting - I'll be doing a 1000 mile or so weekend run with some other classic owners to Harrison, Arkansas. Nathan thanks for putting it up on the events page. I'm hoping to caravan out with some other classic owners, safety in numbers and all that....
How things change! In March a fellow made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I sold Buzz. Since then Buzz has driven many miles with his new owner and is getting set to do at least part of MTTS this summer! But I decided to go anyway with a friend (Bruce K here on M/A), and in fact we are now in Phoenix on the last leg to Sandy Eggo! I'll post up pics from the event as it happens..... Leaving our meet up place in OKC.... Payson, AZ.....almost to Phoenix....temp 115*!
The eaglet has landed! So happy to be out of those 118* Arizona temps! Many classics here already, more on the way....
quite a few cars here now....more on the way. I'll get some better shots tomorrow at the car show at Spanish Landing Park.
