Yah that sounds like it should make sense.

FYI, it sounds like the fuse is linked with some fan and power steering module functionality so that's out... I have to test unplugging the two sensors and see what happens.

Quick update . . . Last Saturday we came back from our 2,200 miles road trip. We had a blast and the spare wheel holder performed flawlessly. Having to unlock and tilt the spare wasn't difficult or annoying.

I ended-up not doing anything with the rear park assist (run out of time to get ready ) and it wasn't terribly annoying. It just made me more aware in being careful when parking :D

But in the end we had ton of fun... We managed to drive under torrential rain, go up Mt Washington VT, get on a ferry, Pass the 20,000 miles marker, and drove about 89% top down:

PS, the guy by the Miata was pretty cool. We talked a bit and he owned a few minis. It just happened that he got a good deal on that Miata he could pass...

Will your mount support the full size flat if you have to use the mini spare?

It needs additional hardware (some simple spacer bolts) but yes it does. That was an important criteria and why it is beefed up

And the spare doesn't rub the paint off the rear bumper when you hit bumps or fly over railroad tracks?

nope! it's pretty rock solid. We got a good test when our GPS didn't understand that the fastest route didn't mean taking us on a tiny country road in the middle of being redone with really uneven pavement and gravels the size of golf balls :frown2:

And you didn't need it the whole trip...... :biggrin5:

Done any more research on how to disconnect the back up sensors? I know people who install bike racks have a similar problem.......

    That's the idea
But seriously it would have been a huge help if I did got a flat

Yes, I'll be working on on a bike rack soon as a next project so it will be the same issue. For now I haven't done more testing but I plan to.
I also have a light harness I have not installed yet so perhaps that might answer some of it... I've read that in some cases for bmw cars the light harness disable the rear park assist when used. I'll have to see if that's the case for the MINI.
