Make sure to sign up for the kickball game because that truly is EPIC. I hear that this year will be truly amazing
You can. Heck you really don't need to sigh up at all if your not going to be in any "official" drives. But it's not much and helps keep the event going.
I didnt go on any organized runs last year, and still had more than enough fun going out on my own. There is a lot to see once you break away from the crowd!
Lots of wonderful roads & scenery. Drive in any direction & you'll have a fine time. If you can read a map you are in for some fun. Can't read a map follow the rear bumper in front of you. Either way is fun.
Was actually a great run! We just had to drive to the starting point. Had he waited about 10mins longer. Ha!
Well we did get a little lost. But it was all great in the end. I'm going to program a few runs into the gps.
Heck getting lost is half the fun. I've found many great roads & seen many cool things while lost. Remember the old bumper sticker "Discover America get lost on a rally"....
I agree! Last year I got lost on a paved "road" by one of the lakes that narrowed to the point where the tires of the Jeep where hanging in the dirt on both sides! When it became so overgrown that I was pin-striping the sides and about to bust my lights off on the low hangers, I figured it was time to make an 80 point turn and head back before it turned into a "Hills have eyes" situation.
Why do you think I turned around! The only open off road trail I found started on Hellbender, and ended at the top of the Fontana dam with a Road Closed sign and gate pointed the opposite way! Somehow I wasnt as nervous as the bike path!
I've had 2 really "lost" experiences...both near Cherohalla...one on an unplanned detour thru the Cherokee Indian Reservation and the other thru the Joyce Kilmer National Forest. That second jaunt ended with my friend in his Classic puncturing his radiator on the rocky road and us limping back to Fontana, stopping at every overlook and trash can area searching for partially full discarded water bottles. He knew of a guy in Knoxville who could fix it temporarily...well, enough to get back to Ohio, but it took awhile.
Looks like standard dude and standard dude 2 are out. Dave sent me an email and said he can't make it.
