Well it's that time of year again. I'm gearing up the planning phase for the 2010 MOTD. So if you have any questions, comments, want to lead a drive, etc. this would be a great place to post up. HERE is the link to the main website where all the event details will be posted shortly. I've create a Facebook page for the event HERE. Once you sign up to be a fan, you can just check you "pages" tab on the top left hand corner and you should see any updates that I post.
April 28 - May 2, 2010 Of course you do not have to be there from Wen - Sun. Some folks arrive early and enjoy a few "quieter" days. Some folks come for fewer days, but this is the event east of the Mississippi that just can't be missed.
When does this gang head down usually? I was initially thinking Tuesday night, but now I'm thinking maybe Monday and doing the whole week.
for what it's worth.....i'm leaving monday night after work. the cabin is reserved from tuesday to sunday! caravan?
we have an azalea 2 br with fireplace...next to the helix hut. you, i, we can easily walk, stumble, or roll to the vendor and event areas:cornut: it is good!
I meant from PA down there..... But too many margs sounds like a distinct possibility down there
I'll probably head out the Sunday before making the trek from Dallas to Marysville in one shot. Then a nice easy drive to Fontana the next morning.
Do you take 40E or do you take 20E thru MS and Ala., and up thru TN,GA.. We're heading up Mon. or Tue..
40E. But there was a major rockslide in NC near the TN line about a month ago where they said it would take a few months to clean and fix the road. As the event draws near I'll be checking TNDOT to see what the status is. http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/rockslide.htm I've tried the I20 route before and the LA portion is in horrible shape. Major gaps between concrete sections were quite unkind to back with the stiffer suspension I have.
I agree. In Ala there is a section, I believe it is on I59 The Korean War Highway, north of Birmingham that is horrible. I just stay in the left lane as much as possible.
Perhaps there is an app for that  Looks like we are definitely heading down Monday, getting in Tuesday morning for some pre-madness motoring
I'm totally new to all of this. Got my first MINI in Jan (06 Convertible S in Hot Orange). I love the events at my local club here in DC. I kept hearing about this event so I made a reservation at the Microtel. I know it's not as close but it's cheap and I figured it's kind of late to find a good room anyway. I have no idea what to expect except for driving a really fun twisty road. I saw that registration opens in Jan, but I was wondering what the cost is to register. What kinds of events are happening at the event besides the fun drives? I'm really looking forward to it. Ali
I've always likened MOTD as a week away at camp...with MINIs. Cost to register will probably be the same as last year, $5. You don't have to register to attend but it does help defray the cost of the event. Besides drives there are other events such as a Bingo night, brew swap, wine tasting, cigar salon and if there on Tuesday the now famous Spaghetti Dinner. Many of the drives are more than just drives. There are various excursions such as the ice cream thing, a train ride and a zorbing event. In addition there is a the welcom dinner, the fairwell banquet and I think some otehr meal type events. Can't forget that many of the Motoring Alliance sponsors will be there as well with all kinds of goodies, advice and margaritas.
My blog post after my first MOTD: BlimeyCabrio Blog Archive Blimey does MOTD5 What I still think is the coolest part - that the whole county is OVERRUN with MINIs when we're there. When you're in Fontana Village, it's like you live in a cool, beautiful town in the mountains where almost everyone drives a MINI. Wherever you drive, MINIs are there. In numbers. The folks up there call it "The MINI Cooper Invasion".
