I usually bring the following in some form or another.

AC/DC-anything by them really but always, High Voltage, BiB, Highway

    SRV-'nuff said

John Lee Hooker (couple of albums, especially "Hooker n Heat" with Canned Heat)

    Little Feat- Waiting for Columbus

Zep- I like the new "re-mastered" versions Jimmy Page has been releasing of the albums

Pink Floyd- Animals, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here

plus lots of assorted blues, rock from the 20s to the 70s (been on an old blues kick lately, big Joe Turner, Wynonie Harris, Lightin Hopkins..)

    those are staples for the trip and driving to and from Dragon;

but while on it, like Dave said, "windows open, radio off, listening for that whine and those tires..."

I simply renew my Sirius every time with the 6-months for $25 promotion.

I call, threaten to cancel, and tell them unless they can give me the 6 for $25, I'm out. Comes in handy when I bored of my iPod.

I see a lot of posts about the music but only one mention of the "communication" factor. My questions are: Will ANY 2 way radio work like the basic Motorolas you can pick up anywhere? Is there a certain model or brand anyone would suggest? FRS/GMRS work? Thanks!

In the Event Guide that will be available in April, there will be a listing of which groups use which channel in the FRS system.

They do work if you are walking around Fontana, but since you are up in the hills the distance may be a lot shorter especially if you go out for a drive.

Also I would not use any FRS/GMRS while driving on the Dragon as it requires 100% of your respect and attention.

The life you may save could be your own.

Something you may want to consider...and something that ive done...is go out and get your Ham radio tech license...it will allow you to operate on more than just the FRS/GMRS plus you have more options in antenna and power...i can not only communicate to others but also access weather but emergency frequencies too

can be handy when you are in the middle of nowhere and cant get a cell signal

I second the Ham license idea. Too bad there are few repeaters in that vicinity.

True but most should be able to do P-T-P within range

And I believe it would be 950-ish rpm... given Scooter's tune and all.

Ill be using a freebanded VX-7R which should do anything I want. Has anyone talked about a HAM centralized frequency?

not yet but that is dependent upon people having their tech licenses... you can program the FRS/GMRS freq's into the radio's you just have to program them with the 1w power setting

i can take a look at the freq spectrum and see which ones we can use...mainly its just making sure we arent close to a repeater freq to prevent bleedover
