My mother-in-law fell involve with my wife's R57 and decided she wanted a Mini. We found her a 2009 clubman here and picked it up for her. It will be a month or so before she can come pick it up. Its a very nice S. The guy we bought it from got it for his son, who decided he wanted a truck. Anyway he went through the car and fixed anything wrong with it. He even took off the turbo and intercooler and clean them out. He did not know to have the car walnut blasted. It has 77k on it. When I drove it I was impressed with how quiet and smooth it runs, much quieter then the Helmet or my wife's R57. Yes its an N14. So before she picks it up or my wife takes it to her I plan on doing a few more things to make sure its ready for her. She is 70 and lives in a small town north of Chattanooga, everything is close so she does not drive far. I plan on changing the oil and through a couple extra oil filters in the back for her. The sunroof needs some oil, it sticks everyone in a while. I am considering having it walnut blasted even though I don't think it is needed at this time. I just want it to be as trouble free as posable. If anyone can think of anything els I should do I am open for suggestions. I'll post pictures tomorrow.
I’d like some magnetic or otherwise detachable curb feelers for the rare occasions that my wife drives (and consequently parks) my clubman. Unfortunately, in terms of keeping pristine rims, that ship has already sailed.
She lives north of Chattannooga? If her town is along HWY 411 [between Chattannooga and Maryville], she isn't far from the Dragon...you should stop by next year [on your way to MOTD] and introduce her to the area!
Looks like you found a very nice MINI for your mother in law. You do realize that she now has a lifetime warranty & YOU are the guy that has to do that warranty work. One tip, change the trans fluid if you want the translation to live a long life.
I did not think of that! Thanks! She lives 6 hours away so I will be glad to work on it but it will have to be delivered to me.
Its not a JCW though, just an S. It has a JCW strut brace on it so the guy I bought it from thought it was a JCW and put the strips on it. I ran the VIN it's an S
Change the tranny fluid or engine oil on your way to or from MOTD. What's a few miles out of your way?
Nice S, yes, walnut blast it, change the oil, change the trans fluid, put an updated oil return feed line setup on from Detroit Tuned, that area is a light snow zone, so good all seasons should do for tires, maybe change to Conti all seasons when it is time for new tires. Stay ahead of the oil changes and oil levels on the N14 engine. Check the timing chain tension and replace as needed. Looks good, get her some coco mats front at least. . Nice unit!
I did the timing chain and tensioner on my R58 and her Clubman is still quieter. The rest I will for sure do.
