Hmmm, that looks like the Helmet is parked in the "designated vendor parking" . . . .
It was an inside joke as there was no designated vendor parking. I asked Barry while dealing on the tent "Are there designated parking spaces for the vendors?" to which he replied "Yes, we have vendor alley." Then you get there, ask him where this designated parking is and he says there isn't any.-

I enjoyed putting faces to names I’ve been talking with for years. Great job with the donations for the food bank. I would have loved to join you guys for a cold one but my Doc told me to lay off anything that’d thin my blood out over the weekend. The pics that the Modfather posted of his smoker looked great.
Next year will be a shorter stay because Eli will be in his first year of middle school and his mama put her foot down. I can’t check him out for three days again. He had a ball meeting all you guys and got to know most of the vendors.
Already counting down to the next one.
EDIT: I definitely will not be wasting my money on the dyno next year. Thanks for the heads up about the altitude Dave.-

Agreed.. hated to miss that but glad I was able to meet him in person when he came to the tent. We are already working on plans for next year. @Goldsmithy has some ideas and @ALLMAG Dustin and I discussed a few. Needless to say, I think we will continue to improve. Can't give enough thanks for @Goldsmithy and @MCS02 for their help.
I do have a challenge - for anyone who didn't attend MOTD... notice anything different when you look at the tent? (I don't mean the fact that we had a tent or donations... just anything else)??
MOTD attendees - don't respond.

Oh snap..
I was thinking no-one noticed. You already answered the comment I posted... hadn't read that far on the thread.. winner...
I'll be updating the site with it. I also have new tag cards. I've also been waiting to send out the annual badges until that was done. Note - the annual badges will have the "nostalgic" logo on them. That way you know the "original" supporters.
They will go out this week. As always feedback on the new logo is appreciated.

wmwny Well-Known MemberYou'll have to meet me next year, then, as we are leaving early Friday morning for home.
-
That may work then... if you are leaving REAL early. Plane lands at 9:45. Ideally I will have my car at the airport packed... but I don’t really like driving it to the airport. People drag their suitcase etc down your car and don’t care... but lets assume so. Leave ATL Airport at say 10.. 3.5 hours later puts me in at 1:30. However if your are a night owl and staying up late. We may catch each other.

Fontana weather changes day to day hour to hour.
It could be rainy at Fontana and sunny and dry on the Dragon. I have seen it rain at Fontana and on Hellbender it drys up 1/2 way to the Dragon. -
wmwny Well-Known MemberWe'll probably leave after breakfast on Friday [around 9 or so], but actually, it will depend on the weather. Last year, with the storms, we even left a day earlier and ate the cost of the already-paid-for room. It was a mess on 129, as we had to clear 2 fallen trees on the Dragon [right after Deals Gap] to even get to Marysville. However, if we had stayed and waited for the storms to clear out, we'd have been stuck in Fontana until the trees had been cleared and the power at the Lodge restored. this year, we are bringing saws and stronger tow ropes, just in case.
So, unless you leave Atlanta at night, arrive in Knoxville and spend the night before coming in, about our only chance of meeting will be on 129 as we are heading out and you are heading in. -
Yea last year was a mess.. I got there late Thursday night also. No light, no water.. fingers crossed the weather is what is currently forecasted! Thanks for clearing the trees though, roads I drove Saturday were clear.
-
wmwny Well-Known MemberThe 2 we cleared were about a mile on the hill just before the observation point. Those other trees were whipping about like serpents while we tugged and pushed the fallen ones aside enough for us to squeeze through and GTH outta there. and then, as we were starting down 129 just after leaving the observation point, along comes a TN Hwy. Dept. pickup with a huge chainsaw in the back....go figure.

wmwny Well-Known MemberWe'll be there loaded for bear or whatever. Yes, the weather changes crazily, so we'll have warm clothes, rain gear, and summertime clothing in addition to our emergency tree-clearing stuff.
