My roomie has a youngster at home and his wife is ill off and on. She was happy for him to get to MOTD with me..expecting we'd be back soon. So, in the end, he wasn't crazy about spending more time waiting for the weather to clear, the roads to be cleaned off, and the power to return. We got home a day early and it all worked out for the best because Fontana even ended up scratching the night we lost when we left as the storm hit.
I’ll be around the tent with Dave signing autographs on empty beer cans... The weather has been really weird so far this year, and I don’t see that pattern changing. For all I know, it might actually snow again... So pack accordingly, you’re looking at possible highs and lows between -20/130 and it really can change in a minute. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was down in the campground in a trailer that was really a 5x5x2' box with a tent on top. I can remember groggily waking up, thinking that 2 of my friends were outside, rocking the trailer back and forth so hard that I might have gotten knocked off of my feet... as a practical joke. Had I been thinking clearly, I would have realized that they wouldn't have been out in the pelting rain. I can remember slurring out 'too drunk, fuckers... go to bed', falling asleep promptly. Good thing... had I been awake, I probably would have been scared witless and would have sought shelter in a more permanent structure. I got up early the next morning to lead a drive and what was supposed to be a 2-3 hour tour wound up taking 4-5 hours. Our trip across the Dragon required several excursions across the yellow line to dodge downed trees and the Foothills parkway was closed due to similar blockages. I made up a drive, on the fly, with 20+ cars behind me. I also learned that sticks can get jammed up in the undercarriage and that they can start to smolder / burn after being dragged along the pavement. I had to straddle a ditch, shimmy up under the car to extract a 1" thick branch that had an end glowing like a lit cigar (but smelled wonderfully like a campfire).
We'll be there loaded for bear or whatever. Yes, the weather changes crazily, so we'll have warm clothes, rain gear, and summertime clothing in addition to our emergency tree-clearing stuff.
Have to admit.. love the electric chain saw for small stuff.. so easy compared to two stroke.. when sitting for awhile.
Chainsaw? That’s too easy. It’s better to use explosives to clear the road. Hahahahaha. Don’t ask, we have them.
So far it’s looking like Friday for Dick’s MOTD BBQ... Remember all MA members it’s an open invite, just bring beer, light sides, whatever. I can also shuttle people from the Sweetwater Baptist Church to the house if needed. ( LOW cars recommend) I will be smoking around 10 POUNDS of pig, so we might need to coordinate further foods if need be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Man, I'd love to attend, but will have to check with my rider first, as it probably means we'd be getting a late start home on Friday. What time are you planning to have this shindig? If it's early, we might be able to make it, but if it's a late day event, we'll have to pass.
It will be Friday in place of the usual Stinko De Marko party... Jeff, I will have to light the smoker and get the meats going before 10:30 AM, so if you wanna swing by on your way out, that’s totally fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dick, we'll sure try to be there for a bit before heading out, then...just as long as we get back to OH early Sat. AM We'll probably eat a light breakfast early Friday morning at the food truck by the General Store in Fontana before leaving.
If you can’t make it Jeff, it’s all good. I know I’ll get to see you at Fontana! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
