MSSD updates: The Dragon this past Friday was awesome! (While not in my MINI, the GT was on Indy500 tires PittsBurgers can’t do a hamburger lunch at MSSD. A small group of us plan to do water falls, lunch, meet up with everyone at Soda Pops for ice cream, join in at Night time Dragon Run and then head back to our Fontana cabin for some moonshine on the porch. Any and all are welcome to join us. Byob and maybe bring a chair.
We have 7 people heading down from Ohio and PA and boy are we getting jazzed about spending time with other MINIacs! Now, if I can spend a little more time socializing (while also social distancing) and drag myself off the Dragon! Lol. I’m going to try this MSSD! (Helps that this will be my 5th time down to the Dragon this pandemic! Lol)
Final planning, MINIacs getting excited about heading to the Dragon and playing with others with our passion! Thank you in advance Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club! (In case I forget to say it while I’m having so much fun!)
It would have been my first MOTD this year, as everyone else was sad it was cancelled. I be there with my '06 R53 JCW on Thursday night (yes, early). My Dad is also driving his '12 Clubman from San Antonio to attend. Will be so much fun. -whitney
Welcome to MA! Have fun on the Dragon. If it your first time remember to never cross the yellow line.
You know it's bad when you see a pic of a car on its side and go "Ooooh, an R53... no wait... cross bracing, that's an R52. Not much rust under there and the heat shielding looks to all be intact... must be an old picture!"
Yes that was in October of 2007. Best part was no one was injured. My wife & I were down for our semi-annual OFOTD long weekend. OFOTD = Old farts on the dragon. We weren't with these people although they are from our area. My wife had just said we haven't seen ---- or -----. We rounded a corner on the way out on Sunday morning & bam there they were. After the wrecker came we loaded the three of them in out MINI & took them to the Knoxville airport so they could rent a car for the trip home. Later on as we headed up 75 on the way home they passed us at triple digit speeds. You'd think after rolling a car with the family in it you'd cool your jets a bit. My wife & I shook our heads at that. There you have it the rest of the story. Well most of it.
Just wanted to thank Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club, all the MINIacs and our small group that attended MSSD! We had a blast! Our small group drove the Dragon with passion and respect. We had a chance to visit with other MINIacs safely and with masks or outside and more than 6 feet and had lots of fun. Soda Pops ice cream is always a hit! Our water falls run was damp, quick and very enjoyable! Thankful that the safety barrier made sure we didn’t drive where it was unsafe. Lol
But Patrick, Mike and I headed down Thurs morning. We had Thurs afternoon and Friday for dry Dragon Runs. Spent Sat and Sun doing other fun stuff.
Good stuff - make the best of it. I remember one drive at MOTD coming bank in the rain... a little sketchy.
Nice! I'm a project manager with an annual cycle of work... fall isn't the best time for me to be taking a lot of days off in a row. I'm seriously looking forward to MOTD and some adult at summer camp time.
