This was not what I expected, on the way to Denver for MTTS my airbag light came on, after talking with some people who know more about MINIs than I, every one thought it was probably the airbag connector plug that has a service bulletin and an extended warranty for ten years or onehundred thousand miles, a known issue. So fast forward to today, took the car to Baron MINI in KC this morning, after about 1/2 hr wait the SA came and told me the problem was resolved, it was a Mt Dew bottle that had rolled under the seat and when moving seat back and forth it pulled a wire out. The tech took a pic of it , said that was a first for him. They cleared the code and everything is back to normal. Also want to say thanks to Baron because they did not charge me for the visit, a great bunch of people. I guess i will keep the trash picked up.:rolleyes5:
Seems like an illogical conclusion. Can you please try to duplicate the fault with some Pepsi bottles? Both regular and diet to eliminate that variable. Report back to us. Thanks.
Baron Mini are a bunch of good peoples. Althought I sometimes feel like I know more about Mini's than the SA. Who was your SA today?
I'm sorry I didnt get his name, was a little on the heavy side and had dark hair, the tech told me what he found, was a little amused..
Glad it got worked out. But the issue I see here is that a soda bottle is able to unplug the airbag. If that isn't a design flaw then I don't know what is.
Happens frequently We see this issue all the time at Airbag Service (my other job) and to all kinds of cars-water bottles, sandals, other crap wedged under the seat-the seat gets moved and the object pushes up against the connectors. They DO NOT have to be unplugged, just pressure causes the signal to be disturbed. First saw this at least 8 years ago in a VW Jetta and it has repeated many times.
So who was the responsible party for leaving the bottle under the seat in the first place??? That person should be held liable and required to clean the interior for a fortnight!!!
