Finally, you're here, DEv. Welcome to MA, the site of those who give a damn!
How many miles do you have on the clock? Start testing the BPV by zip tying it down. If it cures it, either change the spring or go w/ the DetroitTuned BPV. Change to new OEM wires & replace your decade old fuel filter, these are maintenance items anyway. It would also be good to check your belt, tensioner damper & harmonic damper along the way. Injector cleaners like Techron, BMW Fuel System Cleaner PN:82140413341 would help if fuel & injectors are the problem, but cylinder misfires almost always throw the SES/DSC lights & show misfire codes. Do these 1 @ a time.

You need a code reader of some type. There are all kinds at all price points that do lots of different things.

I'm behind the tech curve. I'm using a 2nd generation Blackberry with an app on it. Only reason I still have the phone is to read and clear codes.

Some auto parts stores will read it for you too. Auto-Zone here in the states. Have no idea what chains in Canada may offer the same service.

After you know the code you can look it up on the 1st Gen ECU Codes listing in the M/A Library. We'll help from there as to what it really means.

Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community.

    What brand plug wires?

    What brand Coil?

When was the last time either of the above were refreshed?

If yo haven't already, try cleaning the contacts on the coil where the plug wires go, especially cylinder #3, sometimes they get corroded and can cause this.

Let us know what you find, OK?

BTW, just because a plug strips doesn't mean you need a new head, you can usually fix that right on the car, just FYI.

I know, but no mechanic around here would do it ... They all scare of the after-service and warranty ... They say the spark blow inside the head before leaving the cylinder ... Cost me around 4200$ Can !!

For the coil, i'll do that tonight ... Will get back to let you know ...

It seem that my SC is sleeping, this morning ... I'm not able to heard it until 5000rpm ... Is it possible that the problem came from it ? When they did my head, they changed the SC oil and check if everything was ok ... And it was !!
