Great news, I just loaded a new Bimmer Lite article up in the Library! For the uninitiated, Bimmer Lite is Marc Biunno's MINI Cooper-centric column published in Roundel magazine. Thanks to gracious approval from Marc and the folks at the magazine, we've been allowed to reprint some of the columns here at M/A. The latest in the series addresses a subject many of us have come to grips with. How many of us have spent time and effort trying to remove some of the cute from our MINIs? I have...there's still a little more though and I'll get to it eventually. Check it out! My Mini is not cute. It's tough.
Just two weekends ago, while at the Streets of Willow I had to drive over to Big Willow (adjacent tracks) in search of some driving gloves (it was cold and I was in a vert). The local Porsche club was running the Big Willow for the day and there was some very impressive machinery there . As I came back from the Willow Speed shop there was at least half dozen Porsche people gathered around Egguinn ('05 MCc) ogling it. So in my best Army command voice I said: "Step way from the car, keep your hands to yourself". Thankfully everyone got the joke. They really digged the little Cooper 'Vert. They especially liked the color matched dash and the gauges ( a $500+ option on the Porsche. Only $100 or so on a Mini ).
I'm sorry guys, but I like that my MINI's cute... in fact, I have further "cutened" it up. But I am a 5'1" female, with Hello Kitty tattooed on her arm, so I live in cute. I guess I am bringing you all down to the dark, "cute" side
LOL. That article was great! Hey, I'm getting an all black MCS. It's about the least cute you can get. Someone is still gonna call it cute. That's fine. I can deal. I do know that when I hang with my autocross buddies no one is calling it cute. Terms like: "sick", "wicked quick", "awesome" and yes even, "Bad Ass", will be used in describing it. So let the other guys call it cute. If a woman calls it cute, I'm okay with that. It just means she'll happily hop-in and take a ride :ihih: (assuming my GF is okay with that :eek6: LOL)
Girls are attracted to 'cute' cars, as well as any 'cute' guys that might be driving them. What's the problem?
Not sure there is any car on the road cuter than the Mini. Even the Miata is more... masculine. If you were looking for cool or tough or mean, you definitely chose the wrong vehicle.
When I bought mine I really liked the look, but that wasn't the reason I bought it. I came back from my test drive grinning and knew I absolutely had to have one for the sheer road-going enjoyment factor, and I ordered shortly after. I don't really care whether anyone else thinks mine is cute, but I personally got tired of mine looking that way after a few months and decided to edit it a bit...then a bit more...etc. I like the way MINIs look...even if they are relatively cute...I just wanted mine to look a little different.
Referring to a story Dave told earlier this year when he had to drive it to work for some reason... :aureola:
Thanks for reading, guys and gals! It is such a cute car that I just had to address the issue. Ever since I got it, anytime anyone would call it cute, I'd facetiously respond with, "NO! It's TOUGH!" hahaha - Marc
