I used to frequent this site a few years ago when I had my R56. Even made a trip to the Dragon for the MINI event, which was awesome!! I've since been through a couple different cars, but have always wanted to get into a classic Mini. Well, that day has come. Picked it up last night and drove it 4.5 hours home. Nice! You know, the Mighty Car Mods guys managed to put a supercharger from an R53 on one of those.....
There is a kit to put a super-stuffer on the A series engine. I think Moss sells them. I don't think I would do it, but it would be fun until the head gasket blows. Even then the A series is a seriously easy engine to work on. I love those little A series lumps. Nice Mini, enjoy!
WOW, it's the same exact outside color [putty white] as the one I had when I was 16! Other than that, it's a lot different inside and out and is a lot newer [mine was a '59]. However, congrats and enjoy!
Congrats! Your story sounds similar to mine. Having the classic in the stable helps me cultivate the connection to the Mini heritage, a connection rapidly fading away with BMW's latest offerings and marketing intentions. And it's fun having the opportunity to mod and wrench to your heart's desire. Still have the R59 for its fun factor, but it's amazing how much fun one can have with 38 hp.
Yes, it is JDM. Imported just over a year ago and purchased by someone in Oklahoma who quickly flipped it. A nice gentleman in West Virginia purchased it in November and had to get rid of it due to a divorce. I drove it 4.5 hours home from Davis, WV. The mountain roads were amazing! I'll be there, already registered! Actually, it is only a 4 speed. Cruised nicely at 65mph on the highway though. Speedo is in Km, so Waze was my guide! The car is a blast to drive!! Depending on the weather, I plan to have it at C&C this weekend.
Nice Mini, did you reverse export from Japan? Nicely done interior with the white exterior. Never mind, saw the other postings about the previous import and ownership. Welcome back. Don
