Someone got bent feathers over this...

If I took everyone serious about my R56 being uglier than the R53 over here I'd have moved over to the Toyota Camry forum and talk about cup holder designs, and which hanging air freshener (green pine tree or spongebob squarepants) smells better... Cripes...

    PS... it's not uglier....

I wave at all MINI's and Mini's. I talk to the drives and their passengers. Some MINI's just aren't my cup-of-tea.

I also talk to a lot of people about their cars that I wouldn't buy or may not care for the look of. It's because they have a passion for cars!

I'll even talk to someone that souped up a Chevette. :confused5:

Harleys don't suck. It's the majority of people that buy Harleys that suck!

Doesn't matter. Someone said you did, and it's on the Internet.

Isn't that because they have the noises programmed into the radio? So all the castrated husbands can "make believe RACECAR," when the misses hands over the keys to run out for the milk and eggs on the weekend mornings?

That says nothing about turbo noise... It touches on something coming from the rear of the car. Something called "throatier sound"...... It does also mention that it only works during sport mode. I will say that when I drove this F56 that it did sound throaty from the rear. I thought the exhaust got a lil louder under acceleration whilst in sport mode. But nothing regarding turbo sound.

Nah, Dave would have simply said: "It's a piece of SH#T."

Within 12 or so months, we'll find out whether it's just the MINI enthusiasts who are reacting so negatively to the F56, or whether it's the public that also thinks so. The model cycle is now at a point where just-being-a-new-car won't prop up sales: the real success of the model will now be measured. Third quarter sales are off 5% year-over-year, which doesn't look promising.

here is the thing...i shouldnt have to go get a JCW with an aftermarket suspension... the car should stand on its own with people modding them to get a bit more umph or handling... you shouldnt have to go right out and unscrew the entire car to make it somewhat more like a mini... there is a difference between the 2nd and 3rd gens and its not just the powerplant... despite the fact a S has less than 200hp stock even though its a 2.0L engine... also you cannot cure things like the body overhang that leads to a wallowing rolling feeling... i didnt have nearly the confidence taking corners i can take in my JCW paceman or classic mini at the same speeds... also the brakes just suck something aweful... in the S they upgraded the torque and engine... but it has the same brakes that have been around since the R53 JCW brakes... at the least make the 4pot JCWs from the 2nd gen hardtops standard since they use the 6 pots from the GP2 in the F56 JCW... ive always maintained with sports cars like minis the car should stand on its own... every model up till this point has acquitted itself... this one i have zero confidence in

You don't like, we get that and a lot of people don't. It appears though that quite a bunch do like it and MINI will survive with or without the early enthusiasts. It's a business, it's not a club or a family or a beauty contest...it's a business and right now it looks successful to those charged with running it and producing results for the shareholders. They don't give a rats ass whether it's liked or not....it's a business.

It's true but they should care. It will hurt them in the long run.

the problem is BMW hasn't learned from history... when the previous owners of the marque initially take over... they are pretty strict at sticking with the formula that works with mini....thennnn they stray... special edition after special edition... they try to go too far afield with their "innovation"...then the enthusiasts say screw it...im out... then once the marque owner fills those places with owners not enthusiasts... they don't go out and spread the world of the mini...its just a car... you get a shoulder shrug and a meh it gets me from point a to b... then sales fall off...then Mini is then sold off because its no longer profitable... how do you think BMW came to own the Rover group...

its like when mini started toying with fuel injection on the classics... seemed like a good idea...but they were wrought with problems and most classic owners rip the SpI or MPI out of their cars and switch them back to carb

No it's not. I like the Paceman, that's apples and oranges. I don't care if they make a Paceman or countryman or what ever. That's a good way to attract new customers. But you don't have to get rid of the Mininess ether. You attract them with a car that fits their needs then they start to get the center speedo and window switches in the center colum. Mini could do both. The hard top should stay pure. They don't have to water it down.

I don't know how many company's have to make this mistake to get it. They start out different get noticed and then they start listing to the fun suckers. Crap like if it wasn't small i would buy it, WAAAA. if the speedo wasn't in the middle I would buy it WAAAAA. on and on. So the focus groups convence the management to get rid of that stuff so it will Appeal to a bigger group. Then low and behold no one cares about the ugly little Camry wanna a be. Then it's just another appliance brand. There is enough Toyotas in this world.

You can be different and sale cars. You just need A backbone

The digital oil level check is actually quite nice to use - but I do wish they left the physical dipstick as a failsafe.

After my Focus experience, I'd be hard pressed to buy another new Ford.

The Danger hasn't proven much better in terms of reliability, although at least that truck has an excuse - it's 13 years old and has 137k miles.

I'm guessing folks won't use the electronic oil nanny any more than they used a dipstick. You know what, you are starting to sound like a MINI salesman.

Hang in there Zillion, I'm with ya bro and you are defending the F56 well. These R53 folks will will never change. Well, at some point they will have to, because rust conquers all at some point. :D

If you do some searching on the N20 BMW engine you will find some interesting info on how much potential there is with those stock parts.

Back on topic F56 love..... :)
