I'm guessing the look will change, it going to have to, they've made too many fundamental changes to the car and tried to cram it into the original look, and it's just not working anymore. The R56 was the transition point, it was close enough to the R53 that the reality is most people couldn't tell the difference. The F56 is a bridge too far.
I'd love to see a "tiny" MINI that keeps getting hinted at. Otherwise, MINI is going to follow the Porsche and now Lamorghini model of larger vehicles and SUVs to keep the brand profitable. Who'd a thunk 25 years ago Porsche would be making the majority of their profits off of an SUV...
I've come around to Stephenson's wish, that MINI would go for a radical departure from the current design. It's probably the only reasonable way to go at this point.

Not just like them, like them as much or more as their old R50, R53 and R56.....
I think F56 owners should get their own forum, then they can criticize those old fogey stuck in the past R50, R53 owners! :biggrin5:
That little blue electric roadster with the fin up the back shows how radical they can go and still have it be recognizable as part of the MINI family.
The thing that bothers me more than the looks is how they keep jacking the price up.......small BMW indeed. In fact, they're knocking on the door of BMW prices already...... -
Is it an unfriendly reception here? (not that I've really picked up on, other than this thread)
Or... has the MINI become so blandly mainstream that some of the owners of newer MINIs don't have any real enthusiasm for their cars as being MINIs? -

Bruce, please don't believe everything you read or hear... Folks here are all (well nearly all) good folks with good intentions and mean no one any harm by offering up regularly conflicting opinions.
-
Of course the options I want, may not be the same as what other's might want, which could make the difference. -
I think Sir Issigonis would be thrilled with this little thread here. The damn things are getting bigger and bigger and its sickening, makes me wanna puke. The reason I feel in love with MINI's is because i could relate. In my body i can fit anywhere, run fast and corner with not problem, jump fences what have you... I felt like my r56 was the extension of my body, a nice small body with lots of power and handling.
Now i've never driven the 3rd gen cars for the exception of the countryman, but just seeing the changes it makes me think the brand is gonna be lost- An economy car that was efficient and could drive well. Thats the whole reason the first mini was even created for. -

Glad you like your F56 you bought it after all. Not my cup o tea, but life is that way people like different things.
This is a very good MINI site with lots of great helpful people. Coming from the Namless site you should be able to see that. Stick around & make friends. You've made a good start by calling folks Douches???
I hope your wife gets well. All the best & Motor On. -
If anyone wants to see what a 'real' new Mini would have looked like, the 1990s Spiritual concept cars are near perfect.
Radical, compact, different - all words that scare off buyers (just like the original Mini did), as BMW were wise to realise.
Few people really want (or wanted) a 'real' Mini, they want a Golf tarted up to look like a cartoon Mini - and that's what they've got, for three generations.
The original Mini was an anti-styling car, whereas styling seems to be what Mini owners want to talk about the most. Nobody seems to care much how the F56 drives.
This discussion is more like hearing teenage boys with an excess of hormones discussing girls than old farts with lawns.....
