MITM 2011 Winter Park, CO August 4th - 7th I can promise we won't be sharing the spotlight with MTTS this time. We will soon be updating info at www.MINIsInTheMountains.com Chuck
I've heard good things about MITTM. I should say that I could make MITTM, but I would have to leave early to get back to St. Louis for another trip. So ... maybe! :beer
Long drive from Ohio but we would come through St. Louis to meet up with you guys. It's an event I want to attend next year. MM, do I smell road trip
Thanks for the offer, Mark. But I would have to leave Saturday to get back for an early Sunday morning flight.
MITM By far, been to the last two. Agree with all stated that this years blend of MITM and MTTS kinda stretched it askew. Really looking forward to doing this as a stand alone event this year. The roads may not be NC/TN good but the Rockies more than make up for the disparity MOTD scares the crap out of me, that many MINI's on those roads with the wide disparity of driving skills is just asking for problems. I've been told I am totally insane behind the wheel but I draw the line at this If you want to do the Dragon, which a MINI owner is almost obligated to do, do it on your own or there are local clubs that have events there. 9 hr drive from St. Louis
My vote goes to ArcticMINI. Planning is going on now for Feb. 2011. Check out ArcticMINI.com. Of course, this is not an event for garage queens.
I know I have only been to MOTD once, but I did not find it dangerous at all. There are a lot of MINI's there, but they are not all on the Dragon. Most seem to take other roads and there are a lot of day trips that take folks off in other directions for the day. Only once did I have a car pressing me and I let them go by. All the rest of the time I did not have a car in sight. One really needs to try MOTD. It is a fun time. Also a 9 hour drive for me. Jim
That ArcticMINI event looks like it would be a blast. Don't think I could be ready to go by February 2011 though.
I'm with Jim on this one. . .I didn't find MOTD dangerous at all. People seemed to hit the Dragon in small groups or go solo (as I did). I did have to let some two wheelers go around me but it was my first time on the Dragon and I was making a cautious "first run" to get a feel for the road and for how my MINI would handle it since I had only gotten it about three weeks before heading to MOTD. Had so much fun this year (my first time!) that I've already made plans for next year!
geowit posted a few posts back with his recommendation for it as a recommended national event. Link is ArcticMINI.com. He indicated they are planning for 2011 now, but no info on the site. All it has is historical info up through 2009, but I did find some info on 2010 over at mini2.com in the NE region forum.
Oops, sorry I missed that post. That event sounds like something for Mark/Lotsie's Poco---an "Arctic" veteran!
MOTD is the best, although I really enjoyed MTTS this year. MA Bowling Shirt Day will be a blast...if you haven't ordered a bowling shirt, do it today!
