That wheels is the OEM 15" Steel wheel. Being from a 1st gen car there may be an issue with the lug bolt holes since MINI changed from 12mm to 14mm in the 2nd gen. I'd take a spare lug bolt with you to check fitment before committing.

I don't think they'd clear the larger brakes of the R56 S. I'm sure they wouldn't clear the R53s JCW brakes.

edit: Just read the same response to your question over on M|U.

I don't know how much snow and ice you have to deal with but I run my stock wheels with the stock Goodyear RS-As in the winter, they did well enough in the snow when carefully driven and the only thing that really stopped me was the car itself wasn't tall enough for the amount of snow we had. Last winter, by staying on top of the snow I was able to make it out of the parking lot where my landlord's Dodge Ram had become stuck and needed to be pulled out.

I was thinking that, as i have NEVER used snow tires on any of my vehicles in the past. I live in Western, NY (East of Buffalo).

I had a Monte Carlo SS(FWD) before the MINI and always just ran all season tires. I was thinking of just running the OEM All Seasons, but I'm hearing a lot of chatter about the need for winters with these cars.

I guess I was looking for a cheap set of Rims and tires in case i find myself in quick need of snows.

I RAN MY ALL SEASONS LAST WINTER WITH NO ISSUES
MY WIFE HAS A JEEP LARADO AND WOULD HAVE TO PUT IT IN 4 WHEEL TO GET OUT OF OUR ROAD, THE MINI PULLED OUT WITH OUT A PROBLEM.
SNOW TIRES WOULD BE BETTER BUT I DONT SEE IT AS A MUST HAVE
