Hello MA, I am new to this forum and i needed help with my Mini so i thought i would start a thread. I was driving my Mini the other day and i noticed a small amount of smoke coming from my valve cover. I removed the cover and noticed a small oil leak coming from it. I also noticed an orange disc shaped seal that had several rips in it. I took the seal to several mechanics and they did not know what it was called. I took it to the dealer and they did not know what it was called, they also told me that i would need to purchase a whole new valve cover for $365 just to get a new seal. My warranty ended 10k miles ago, the work is easy to do i just need to know what the seal is called and where can i buy one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
:cornut: Welcome to MA. No help here but a mechanically inclined MINIac should be along shortly. Another place to check while you're waiting is Realoem Parts. They have diagrams and names. Good Luck. Jason
That's a thing-a-ma-bob! Everyone knows that. It attaches to the thing-a-ma-jeg. Sorry I'm a R53 guy so I'm as much help as Jason. But we have some great sponsors.just check in the sponsor section. I have used Detroit Tuned they are always helpful just give them a call.

I am almost positive that specific piece is a non-replaceable component. Pretty sure a new valve cover is in order....unfortunately! I found mine on EBay for about 75$ less than dealer pricing.... just need to search. Here is one that I bought..... a dealer. I just replaced my valve cover and my understanding is that it is not serviceable. You have to replace it all. (However, I cannot prove it). If you need a valve cover, check sewellparts.com. They are having a 20% off sale. I have bought a lot of stuff from them and even with shipping it is cheaper than the local dealer some times. Also, my dealer has matched prices before on OEM parts. I just take in a printout of what the price is and ask them to match it. Never hurts to ask.
Yes, so far anyway you'll need to replace the whole cover, but be sure you get the newer updated one.
Sorry but you can't buy those parts individually as they are not available. We can sell and ship you one no problem. Just contact our shop on Monday.
