Manic recommends one range colder NGK1422 plugs for the 2nd Gen MCS. I don't know if this is also compatible with the JCW, depends on the month year mfg date --- 2010 had a change in plugs according to RealOEM.
Are they decent guys at Detroit tuned? Seems like every "BMW/mini specialist" I've called today doesn't know jack about the performance side of the car. And most guys don't like giving out free advice until you pay for something. I have no problem paying for things but if you don't know what you're talking about and can't help me then don't take my money
At $200 per SPS switch, odds are pretty good you have all maps installed. Easiest way to find out (without having a Manic tuner look at it) is to plug it in and try it. Start with the "stock" and work up to "C". Performance should get better as you progress. If Manic maps are still installed, ensure your dealer techs know about it and don't allow them to re-flash the ECU, that''ll cause the Manic maps to be erased --- at this time they're irreplaceable.
Ya I read that if you re flash the maps are gone, what about finding out if it really has the JCW tune?
I have the autel ap200 Bluetooth scanner with the ability to purchase mini software but I have a feeling it won't be able to tell me what I'm looking for
Should be the same. Check it out using our illustrated parts list --- https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select --- use the last seven characters of your VIN to get the most accurate info. Select engine electrical then the spark plug to see which model years use it. My '07 MCS uses 12120035531. If yours uses the same then you can use the NGK1422 as a 1-range colder plug.
I've put a tuner in my bike and you tune it to the performance parts you have done to the bike, is manic the same idea or is it just a standard increase power thing?
Chad at Detroit Tuned knows Minis. Thats what they specialize in. I don't know how much help he will be on Manic tunes, they sale a different brand tune. @oldbrokenwind is very knowledgeable on Gen2 and Manic, he has help me a few times. If I know I will be taking up a lot of Chads time with a questions I use the link below and add a few bucks as a thank you for your time. I leave my question and phone number in the comment block and he always calls right away. You don't have to do that you can just call them and he will help. I do It because I use to turn a wrench for a living, it's just a way of saying think you.
Ya I was a mechanic for 10 years and know what it's like when people come in asking how to fix this or what's wrong with that, everyone has to make a living and I have no problem with that, just the feeling I got from all 3 shops I talked to today is that the can fix a stock mini and won't be able to help me with except for the walnut blasting from one of them. What link is that?
Sorry I forgot the link. https://www.detroittuned.com/phone-tech-support/ He is very helpful, like I said you can just give him a call, he will still help.
Ok thanks, no I don't mind paying, everyone has to make a living, I'd even make the 3 hour trip if he's going to be able to help me
Manic has 4 stages of tunes --- 1 thru 4. Stages 1 & 2 are pretty much canned tunes --- you need certain mods to qualify for each stage. Stages 3 & 4 are best done on a dyno and/or lots of data logging and road tests, and require even more mods, so these tunes are specific to your car --- my stage 4 is different than everyone else's stage 4. If you've already listed your mods, it looks to me like you have either stage 1 or 2. To get specific info about different stages, try contacting a tuner with manic experience. Maybe try their old FB page --- https://www.facebook.com/ManicMotorsport/ for mention of previous tuners. My tuner of choice is Eurotechs, located in Tempe, AZ, specializing in Mini's and Jaguars. He spent over a full day installing my stage 4, dyno and data logging. Yes, I paid for it, but my time and effort was well worth it, and the price was right. If Detroit Tuned doesn't satisfy you, contact Eurotechs --- https://www.facebook.com/EuroTechs/
Hey everyone, little update on my mini. Been driving around the past couple days and noticed it's not going over 60°C while driving. Only when I let it idle for a bit did it get warmer, and then the exhaust started popping like crazy, usually it's just a small pop as I'm going up through the gears but this time it was serval going up and coming down. Any thoughts?
