Ok thanks for the plug info. Using an obd2 reader. I got an OE thermostat from a secondary supplier.

It's electronically controlled thermostat is it not? If it's reading cold how has the car not over heated and blow yet? It would keep the thermostat closed until reaching operating temp

90 C is 194 F which is perfect. It will always get cooler when driving because of airflow.

But drop down that much colder? Seems a little on the cold side for driving around

Yup a cool motor is a happy motor. You never want the motor too warm as it will overheat quickly, blow head gasket and warp head.

Ya I understand that, but it's called operating temperature for a reason no? Just seems really cold for driving around

@oldbrokenwind said the Manic tune keeps it at 175F. The coldest temperatures you are seeing 68c? If so that’s 155F so your not too far off. Is it running ok?

Bit of a rough idle now and then, as well as a P1497 code coming up but other than that it's running good

Check the plastic pipe that goes from the intercooler to the intake. I had one get a small crack in it from age.

Hey everyone, just a little update. Temperature is reading good now, and not dropping like mad when I start driving. Like to get everyone's opinion, I'm going to change the oil for the first time since I've had the car, just wondering what everyone uses? Some people say 5w30, 5w40, 0w40,10w60. And then there's the different brands. Just hoping to find out what everyone's had better luck with and with the mods done.

FWIW, I’m using the new (SN plus) version
of Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W-40 (550051113). Good for small gdi turbo engines (LSPI
prevention), HTHS of 3.6 so a3/b3 rated, and a
high viscosity index* in the right viscosity range.
Not many oils hit all those points.

*and mb-229.5 approval means NOACK is less
than 10% despite its high VI of 206.

Do you live in a warm climate all year round? For example, I live in SoCal so I’m not concerned with the first number with the “w” (winter).

I find my engines run hot as Fck, so unless I have a brand spanking new vehicle, I run 0-40 or 0-50 depending on mileage & year made.

My mini has 74k+ miles, 7 yrs old, & runs hot. So I run 0-40 (again, winter is not a variable)

My Samurai’s engine has 110k+ miles, runs cool, but hot enough to thin 0-40 causing a loss of pressure. So Full Synthetic 50 Straight.

    @Dave.0 What you runnin SoCal?

Gets pretty could up here, I live close to Toronto. Some years we see -30°C and my engine runs cold. I have the manic tune and it's set to run cold.
