Optima is always a good battery but it is a little pricey. The Autozone battery has been getting good review for the last several years and I have put a few in different cars. Interstate has also been a great choice for many years.

If it's only been a few months and it's been stored, not sitting outside, you should be in good shape. I would just do the regular checking the oil, other fluids, and tires. While you're at it check over hoses, the belt and other rubber bits.

I've been using the Optima 34R battery in my Cooper S for nearly the past 10 years. Actually, that's been two different Optima batteries. I replaced the first one after about 5 years out of caution (I'm not a fan of waiting until a battery strands me), and the second one is going strong.

It's not an exact fit - I use a rubber spacer between the battery and the tie down, but the terminals are easy to hook up. And since it is sealed there is no need to mess with the vent tubes.

Good deals on Optima batteries are out there on the Interwebs.

I also use Optima battery. Been fine for the three years I have had it so far. Optima does not have a vent if that is important to you.

I also think you should be fine with a startup. I would be a little worried about the gas degrading depending on how many months it has been sitting but a fill up with new gas should resolve any issues.

Optima red top is nice and I had one for years until it started to die. Did all the charging and maint with expensive AGM charger and conditioner. Did not buy a new Optima because they are now made in Mexico and are not as good as they used to be.

As I said above, Optima 34R works for an R53 MINI. According to the Interwebs, that's Optima part number 8003-151, but it is commonly referred to as just plain old 34R.

Amazon has it for $148 with free Prime shipping. Looks like Summit has it for about $11 more.
