The current cars aren't pretty but if memory serves they looked much better when they were first shown than they are now with current body kits and aero bits.
I wonder how much of that will happen to the new version...

Pretty car - now for my racing rant.
These standard cars have ruined racing both indy and NASCAR. The whole inventiveness that drove the sports is gone as well as too me all of the fun. Each team should be able to build and field whatever it wants, yes one team will be better. And yes team with the most money wins.
We have turned racing into a safe space where everyone is afraid to tell drivers and teams they didn't win. Everybody now gets a participation award with points and segments and on and on.
Communist racing is no fun. They will continue to tear don grand stands to make the tracks look fuller and look back at past glories and wonder why snow ones comes anymore.

They look a lot better, but the wheel pods in front of the rear wheels still look too big. I can't wait to see the road course bodywork. I thought they had one on display at Mid-Ohio and they were supposed to test their today, but I haven't found any pics yet.

Just saw this video which explains why the rear wheel pods are so large on the speedway version. They wanted the cars to do 230+ in qualifying and the pods were necessary to reduce the drag of the rear tires.

I am a big Indy Car fan and have been sense I was a kid. I think the new car does look better, but most of all moving the down force to the bottom of the car will make the racing even better. The days of open innovation are over unfortunately. Even in F-1 and unlimited sports car racing they are dialing it back. They could make cars that would corner so fast drivers would black out. The bigger problem is money. The innovative cars of the 50s through the 80s were the result of innovative mechanics. Now it requires large engineering firms. The good drivers and crews still innovate, but they have to work on fewer things. The good part is the racing is over the top good. Did you see Newgarden pass Power this past weekend! The roadsters of the 1950 were owned and supported by private business men. The 1960 on saw corporations and big sponsorships come in. The money grew the sport but there are consequences both good and bad.

Also, I will never complain about the wheel pods. I was actually at the Vegas race where Dan Wheldon died. I don't ever want to see that sort of a wreck again. -

I'm surprised that they are not on the 2018 cars since they were there as a safety device to prevent tire contact & flying cars. Maybe they didn't work as intended. Dixon managed to go flying after contact at Indy this year.
