These may be the last photos to trickle out...we'll see.
After the wrap, Opie decided it was finally his turn to take a spin. He said it felt like a victory lap and that's the speed he drove at.
'The Mule' in this case is the high speed camera car:

It wasn't until Sunday that the rain finally stopped so we didn't see much on-track activity prior to that except for the drying Friday afternoon session which ended up setting the grid for the race. One of my fondest memories in F1 spectating occurred during that session when Ronnie Peterson came through turn 11 in an on-the-edge opposite-lock four wheel power drift and a photographer standing just beyond the guardrail "headed for the hills" thinking he was about to die...on the next lap, Peterson came around slow at the end of his in-lap with a very prominent middle finger to the photog for not trusting that he was in complete control of his slide...even the photographer laughed out loud.
James Hunt won on Sunday, Scheckter in the 6-wheeler was 2nd and Lauda barely squeaked into third to maintain a 3-point lead in the drivers championship with Ferrari clinching the Constructors title that day. For us looking back it was really a weekend to forget with all of the precipitation misery, but now it's headed to the big screen...whodathunk!
That USGP was the penultimate round before the final race in Japan, so I imagine that they will use a bit of magic to make the British circuits that they filmed on look like Watkins Glen in October.
Side note, a few weeks ago on a classic Mini forum I noticed a thread where the OP was requesting photos from 1976 of the signage at Monza that the tifosi used to "destroy" in order to have a good elevated location to view the Italian GP. The thread was a month old with no replies so I proceeded to find and post this photo...
Subsequently another forum member posted a few more and the OP thanked us both for contributing and he stated, "You will know what this was about next year" to which I responded, "Well you've raised my curiosity now...does it have anything to do with popcorn, Opie, Rush, and James Hunt?"
His response..."Can't possibly comment." -

Another pic from the post-wrap "victory lap" -- looks like he's enjoying himself:

They interviewed Opie on the grid at this morning's race at Monaco, and as they were just about done one of the cars fired up and they both jumped, but Ron Howard smiled and said - "there! that's what I'm talking about!"
He's absolutely determined to make a film that not only will be a big box office hit, but will be tru to the story and true to F1 and racing, I think he will do it and I'm really looking forward to it.
He said the film will be just over 2 hours long and they are done filming and into editing already! -

Do you speak Finnish? Never mind, the interviews are in English...

There haven't been many interesting (to me) updates lately. I like this shot of the high tech way they're producing some sound effects for a racing in the rain sequence.

Thanks for posting this update. The cars are real, the recreations look great and the story of that season in F1 is one of the most interesting in all of racing. Ron can be trusted to do it right. Can't wait for this to come out. IMAX would be too much to hope for.

Great trailers, thanks so much for posting these! A great quote from Ron Howard, ".....the 70's, when sex was safe and racing was dangerous"-so true....I've been waiting a long time for this film to finally get made....been talked about for years.
As F1 fans, we have had very few films that really captured the sport accurately(Grand Prix and Senna-although more of a documentary perhaps, come to mind).
Ron Howard has the credentials to get this right, and I think he will have done his homework and do justice to this absolutely amazing story.
Can't wait...
