In an effort to make Motoring Alliance as usable as possible by all I've added a new bit of code that displays the number of unread posts since your last visit. This is limited to the past 10 days to keep the site runny snappy. In the upper right corner there is now a line that says X# Unread Posts since your last visit. Clicking on the highlighted Unread Posts will open a page listing all the unread posts by thread in chronological order. If there are any comment, questions or even complaints, please be sure to let me know.
Is this the same as the new post link in the left column? I have also noticed that when I go to the CP to check subscribed threads it lists many more than just the new ones since last visit.
Somewhat the same, this adds the number of unread posts. Also it's a more visible location which should encourage better use. Google Analytics has a wonderful tool set that includes an overlay of what is clicked on the site over a user definable period. I look at the reports generated from this on a regular basis and adjust the site to make it more user friendly. The subscribed threads list should show all threads subscribed to, not just the ones with updates. Those with updates should be displayed at the top of the listings.
I didn't think it used to show all of them. I thought you had to clink on the "show all threads" link at the bottom of the list.
I saw that and clicked on it. Then I got a 404 error? Clearly there have been mad posts since my last visit.
I don't really use the thread subscription bit so I'm not 100% on it workings. I'll start using it and see if I can diagnose the issue.
Thanks Nathan. It used to work just like NAMless did. When you clicked on the CP link it would by default only show subscribed threads with new posts since your last visit. Just like the New Posts link does.
This is great! It allows me to take a quick glance at things on only the threads I am interested in when I don't have the time to casually search through all the forums. Thanks Nathan! Mark
