New for 2011 is the Outmotoring / Motoring Alliance Photo Contest! The theme for the 2nd Quarter 2011 is Reptilian and must include a MINI or Mini in some identifiable manner. Before you roll your eyes and figure this is just another photo contest keep in mind this is Motoring Alliance and we do things differently here. Lets hit the basics... Outmotoring has graciously offered to be the sponsor. Aaron has some great prizes up his sleeve for the winners. The entry period is quarterly, not monthly, this gives you time to think about and stage or stumble upon the perfect entry. Quality of the image is not as important as exemplification of the theme. This means that all those people that have those killer post processing skills are not the ones that will always win. Everyone has an equal chance, from slightly blurred iPhone pictures to full blown photochopped and enhanced images. There is a new theme each quarter. All entries will be judged by a panel of 5. These 5 include Aaron from Outmotoring, Tim (TGS91) - the contest format was his idea, Rally - has a great eye for design, myself - to break ties and an unnamed person at this time. Interested in being a judge? Let me know and tell me why you are suited for the position. There will also be a People's Choice award. All entries will be posted for voting at the end of the period. A poll will run for 2 weeks. If there are enough entries there will be a 1st, 2nd and possibly 3rd place. To enter, simply add your image(s) to the proper Contest Gallery. Outmotoring Photo Contest - Reptilian - Gallery I can't stress enough that the theme is what will be judged. All entries must be in place by Midnight Eastern Time on June 30, 2011 Thanks to Tim for the concept ideas, Aaron at Outmotoring for sponsoring and Rally of Stance Design for being a judge. Lets get those entires in!! Good Luck
I think about the 20,000 miles I'm keeping off of it a year. Plus all the rocks and salt that arn't getting at it. And when I slide on ice into a fence in my civic - I don't care. Winter driving is scary enough, i like doing it in a car i don't care about.
I went through a nice little snow squall yesterday between State College and Altonna. I think the MINI handles great in the winter. I understand your caution, but I just could not bring myself to not drive it for that long. Jim
It's rough sometimes. But... at the rate I drive I'd have 225,000 miles on it in 5 years when my payments are done. Based on some stories, it might not even run that long. :frown5: If I garage it for 3-4 months that cuts it to 112,000 in 5 years - much more swallowable.
Jeeesh Jim..... Don't rub it in..... I think about my MINI all the time and all the fun I'm missing not driving it. However, I'm also one of those that doesn't want the winter wear and tear abusing my MINI, let alone the nut jobs driving on the slick streets. Nope, I'll wait until Spring.
I really like this, esp. the idea that exemplification of the theme is valued more than technical photographic merit. In other words, you don't need an expensive camera or other equipment/software to have a hope of winning.
Does it need to be a new for contest photo or can you use photos taken at an earlier time "old stock" so to speak.
