The 2nd gen speedo lens is right around the corner. It has already gone through a few prototypes and should be available after the holidays.
Yes, these lenses have a hard, scratch resistant coating. During development I wasn't at all careful about handling them (e.g. carried unprotected in a bag with tools) and had no scratches except for one that fell on the floor and got stepped on a few times before I found it.
